When ever I want to stop the car from rolling (using handbrake) on a hill that slopes towards the rear of the car (back is lower), the handbrake will not hold, seemingly no matter what I do. Hello all ... My 91 240 has a couple of really noisy valves. I have read that the adjustment is done by using shims. Where can i find replacement shims and the specialty tools required. Also, what would i expect to pay?

hey guys theres this girl at my school who is selling he silver 90 240. I'm pricing the cost of a new Volvo s40. I was interested in getting the xenon headlights, but the dealer said it would be about $700 to replace one if it was broken, so he advised against them. Is this accurate? Can the bulb be replaced without replacing the whole headlight?

My 1992 Volvo 240 is having tons of engine knocking. Any time I press the gas, I hear my engine knocking. The engine is the stock that comes with the car (4 cyl, inline). So I got two questions:
1. Will changing from 87 to 91 octane actually make the difference?

Can anybody let me into the secret of adjusting the return springs on the belts they used to spring back into the covers now they just hang &flop about & are a nuisance getting caught up in the doors amongst other things.

I have a 1990/91 240GL Wagon and have been given a CD player/radio as a present. I have had a quick inspection of the 240's wiring and found two connection plus the antrenna lead to the existing rad/cass - i assume that these are basic wiring plus amp connection - but I am not sure.
Can I wire straight to the basic harness and ignore the amp connection - or do I need to tap...

The emergency brake on my 1988 240 has ceased to function and I'm up for inspection soon.
The cables seem tight when I pull the lever up but no action on the brakes. This looks a bit complicated as all cables run through tubes. I need to take the tires off and check inside the rear wheels. Let me do the check inside the rear brakes first then see where I stand.

Just wanted to introduce myself. I bought a 1988 240 DL wagon in Atlanta from Dyre and Dyre when it was new. The odometer stopped working about 4 years ago at 128,00 miles and the clutch and engine are original with no work done on either except the clutch cable broke a few months ago right where it attaches to the pedal.

As per the advice of this website, I went to go clean my throttle body yesterday to solve my poor idling problems. In the process of doing this, I removed my charge pipes only to find an excess amount of oil pooled in them. The oil soakage goes all the way back to the turbo. I just bought a 1984 240 Sedan. It's a 2.1 L Canadian made car. When I filled up the tank today I divided my distance traveled with the amount of litres of gas consumed into a Km per L ratio.

Right now I'm getting 7.39 Km per L of gas. (about 17 MPG I think).

yeah when i start my car and let it idle for a bit theres something thats rattling under my car i dont know if its my muffler or cat its really annoying. another thing is when i start my car the car moves forward a lil and stops and i didnt even switch gears yet.

I drive a 1984 Volvo 240GLM. On the topic of Ignition Coils ... how often does it need to be changed?? I recently changed mine as it was very old. Just by looking at it, I could tell that it was in my car for years!!
However, what are the signs that the coil needs to be changed?? Or is there a specific time in which to change it??

i'm new to the forums here (first post), and I am looking for the air meter assembly out of a 240 running any form of CIS.
there is a mod you can preform on volkswagens with CIS using the bottom half of that assembly and get (seriously) more than 10hp at the wheels!
if anyone has some parts... i have some cash.
