I have an '82 240 DL with square headlights, but I want the round headlights. Is there an easy way to accomplish this? Kits, DIY, junkyard parts hunt?

I'm trying to find a good online used parts store for S40 interior parts. I have some trim pieces that need replacement. Anyone know of a good place or two? I've found some that sell everything BUT interiors. I need stuff like the front and rear door holders (where the window control sits at the door), and other stuff.

Trying to find enough paint to touch up the center console cup holder fliptop in 9951/9A51 light beige sand. willing to buy whatever you have left in spray or bottle form. Cannot find an online resource with this paint color. Help!

I have a 2009 C30 R design (£159 from dealer) and recently damaged the front grille. Every peeny is a prisoner these days and have found a used S40 R design grille on the net for £25. Can anyone confirm that the 2009 S40 and C30 have the same front and that a grille from an S40 would probably fit a C30? Also, can't seem to find scuff boards for 2009 C30 anywhere??

Hi all, thank you for taking the time to read this. I purchased a 1990 740 wagon (base) this week. I love it and am thrilled with every mile we drive. However, I've noticed a potential problem. The gas door (door you open to take off the gas cover and pump gas) doesn't lock. We live in a neighborhood where there's a good bit of vehicle vandalism and I'm nervous about not being able to lock the gas tank. Can a new door be purchased for a 1990 that locks? Or a gas cover with a lock on it? I've Googled until my eyeballs are about to fall out and still can't find one for an older car. Thanks again,

I'm a new first-time Volvo owner (2004 S60), and unfortunately the owners before me did not take real good care of the interior. I don't think the leather has ever been cleaned real well. I wouldn't say it's damaged, really.. it's just dirty from years without any cleaner/protectant. What would you recommend for this situation?

Hello I am new here. I need help on how to restore the headlight lenses on my 2004 S60 AWD. It has OEM Xenon headlights, and recently I wanted to restore the lenses as they show fogy on the outside. I can see and feel pittings from the road debris all over the lens. So I bought a kit from Canadian Tire, basicly couple of sandpapers with different grit from 1000 to 2500, and a pauch of plastic polish. It didn't work out actually it made worse.

I went to a local body shop and they told me the lenses are not made of regular plastic, but something like glass. If you knock it sounds different than the other plastic lenses and it looks thicker without lines inside, it is clear through out the whole area. I've attached pictuers show after unsuccessful restoration.

I've checked with stealer, and they asked for 1500 dollars each, ouch! Please who knows what material it made of and how to restore the clarity properly?

Leather has always been used to give the feeling of luxury. I to have leather seat covers in my car. Its a very daunting task to choose the perfect leather cleaner and use that. I would like to hear what kind of cleaners you guys are using on your leather interior. So, I will try some new ones. Well, I have been using Mothers leather cleaner spray which I got from Autobarn.

Any recommendations?

My first full day with the 1990 740 wagon. It's definitely taking some getting used to. Slow starts from a complete stop..I'm assuming it's just because it's a 3000 lb car
Had the head pipe replaced yesterday, but still pretty loud, especially getting out of first gear. (it's automatic)
Seem like rough idling, but I'm chalking that up to one the muffler still needing to be replaced and two the fact that the car sat for almost a year before my purchase, only being started once a week to save the battery. Before I filled the tank today I put in a bottle of dry gas and a bottle of fuel injection cleaner. No dashboard lights on. I've got an appt. next week to get an estimate on the tailpipe and muffler. I'm scared...hold me.

kwalshy here, I'm a new member and let me tell you, this forum is fantastic. What a wealth of knowledge here! I'm 32 and my family has had 6 Volvos through the years.

I was given a '96 850 Turbo Sedan that needs some body work & minor mechanical TLC. The majority of work to get this car back on the road involves replacing the passenger side doors and side pillar. The car was T-boned by some knucklehead who ran a red light.

I'm mechanically inclined so I'm asking the Volvo experts out there for some assistance because I'm thinking of doing the body work myself. I've located doors for $125 each and a center pillar for $300. Are these prices inline? Are there any surprises involved with changing out the doors and welding in the new center pillar? I'm assuming that the center pillar carries electrical wiring?

Hey guys, Im looking for a few things for my wagon witch is turning into quite a project.
Well to start of im trying to get the body into mint condition before i get her in for spray im looking for

1. front, rear and side bumpers. not body kits just some bumpers to make it look a bit nice.
2. i need rear lights for a wagon something cleaner anyone know what kinda a lights will fit. mirror ones?
3. Rims. looking for good size chromez (still trying to figure out what size i need if anyone can tell me would also be handy)

so if anyone can help me with sizes and what i need please post and i can start ordering in some parts.

The sprinkler water at my work is seriously mineral heavy and there really isn't anywhere to park away from it. I've got hard water stains/deposits building up on my paint and don't know how to get that junk off. I've seen "claybars" but i have doubts about rubbing a clay brick and some compound on my paint to make it better and i don't think the bathroom type hard water cleaners would be wise. Can some one help? Not much worst that little white spots on red paint (oh yeah; and the glass).

Well, I was lucky enough to also detail its awesome twin! This car has every modification you can think of while staying tasteful! I was lucky enough to drive this one home from a local car show where I had it on display and all I can say is WOW WHAT A MACHINE! :nerd:

This is how the car looked when I arrived. It was falry dirty due to the non-stop rain we have been getting here in FL lately.








I turned my attention to the wheels first, as they were pretty dirty.






I then turned my attention to prepping the rest of the car for polishing. I used a sample of TropiCare's Citrus Wash to help break down any oils or contaminants that may have been bonded to the surface. I must say, this stuff works quite well!

Im 17 and just put a deposit on an 1999 S80 a little less than an hr ago. beautiful car everything works find, ya know a few bumps and bruises nothing that cant be fixed. There are three things missing which I can't find anywhere do to I don't know the name. The Trim around the interior handel on the drivers side door as well as the rear door. Another thing thats missing is the knob that allows you to move the side veiw mirrors. They move you just don't have the pretty knob only the white stup and the two roatating pieces. Ok so those are the three things. My next question has to do with subs and an amp. Not really sure which ones I should get. I have about 300 to spend on that. I want it to be heard and if i need to I can use more. Which size subs would be best 10" or 12". And what power or name of amp. Thank you.

I'm hoping that someone on the board can help with my headlight problem. My OEM bi-xenon hid drivers side light was having problems igniting, then went out completely. I discovered that the glass tube was broken (however, still securely in the mount). After pricing the bulb at the dealer (about $250 per bulb), I found two after market D2S bulbs for about $30.

The igniting problem has returned. I can eventually get the lamp to light, but it requires turning the headlights on and off several times. Sometimes it will light without a problem. I took it to a dealer and they swapped the bulbs and also swapped the ballast, but said they couldn't be positive it was the ballast (the dealer has proven to be somewhat unreliable in the past, so I don't trust that they even did it correctly).

Plus, a new OEM ballast is $1,000 from the dealer. I've found an aftermarket ballast for $100 and am thinking of ordering it. However, I don't know where the ballast is located or what it looks like (the OEM ballast). I want to remove it and see if the plug matches the aftermarket plug.

Please help on the location and a picture if anyone has one. Also, does it sound like I'm on the right track? When I bought these things they claimed it was a lifetime deal (guess they didn't expect me to live for 4 years), the headlights are great, but the cost to repair is outrageous (especially considering that I only paid $800 for the option).

Hi I am new to this so please forgive any misstatements on my part. I own a 2003 volvo S80 and I need to find the following parts:

The plastic part that holds the gas tank door onto the car itself. I have the door I just need the part that will secure the gas tank door to the car.

The pop-up cup holder - a passenger got there coat caught on mind and completely snapped off most of the plastic, now it wont go down and is very sharp and I am looking to replace it.

I also need a power steering fuel clamp specifically for Volvo's.

If anyone knows of where I might be able to find these items it would be greatly appreciated.

My '93 940 w/manual seats is missing the side pocket/bin on the driver's seat. I have searched all the Volvo parts suppliers to no avail. Any ideas where I can find this (apparently) hard to find part? Thanks.

Hi there. I've just been cleaning out the car after weekend spent at the beach - sounds great except the kids stored their collection of seashells and their 'occupants' (hermit crabs etc) in the storage compartment in the arm rest (rear). After removing offending stink and using carpet and upholstery cleaning products - CRC X3 Plus Offensive Odour Remover, Leather/upholstery cleaners, baking soda products, carpet cleaners - I've not been able to get rid of the strong fishy stink.

If you've any suggestions on how to remove this smell, I'd greatly appreciate them.

I just bought a 2008 XC70 and noticed two odd things when I got the car home and parked it in my dark garage:

1. There are eerie green lights in the dome light compartments (front and rear) that shine a faint light down into the cabin. They stay on. Always

2. When I set the electronic parking brake, the red light on the dashboard illuminates but stays lit even after the car is off and locked.

Are these situations normal? I have scoured the owner's manual but couldn't find any information. I figure #2 could be normal because it's the only way somebody like a tow truck driver could tell if my parking brake was on.

Any help would be appreciated.

i have not seen a volvo s60r that doesn't have a body kit but has a spoiler or vice versa. i have an s60r and have found a spoiler that is cheap that came from another volvo s60r (my car is devoid of the sport body kit including the spoiler). have you guys seen an R without the body kit but with the spoiler or an R with the body kit and not the spoiler? you think it'll look tacky or sporty? just wondering what you guys thing. let me know your opinions!

Hi, I have a 2001 S40. It has 86K miles on it. I'm now having a problem with the Climate control. It blowers cold but when i turn the knob to hot it doesnt blow hot. any suggestions? thanks

I'm trying to remove my volvo s60 2002 door panel passenger side. I popped the plastic clips off but it looks like I need to remove some screws but I can't find them near the handle. Does anyone have a diagram or video to help?

Nobody I have talked with has any idea how to take this off. This is the plastic piece with the emblems, license plate etc attached to it. I removed the carpet from the inside, and can see it is held on the the sheet metal underneath by little clips, but I cant reach these with pliers or anything to try and pinch them out. Has anyone had experience removing this piece? It seems like if I pry it out Im just gonna break something. Thanks for you help, Stefan

My '07 XC70 (have not taken delivery) has Parking assist. I know about it muting the radio and the beeps when reversing. But does it have sensors in the front also? maybe for a snug parallel parking situation, or to get maximum clearance in the garage?

I am new to the forum, and a first time Volvo owner. I bought a certified 2007 AWD XC90 3.2 with Navigation and 20k miles on it and live in Minnesota so it is cold, and I know interiors due creek and squeak a little in the winter, but this is a very annoying cracking noise when going over rougher pavement or frost lines on the highway. It seems or sounds like it is right up by where the dash meets the glass, and seems to stop even if I apply light forward pressure on the instrument pod. Anybody experience this problem, and if so what is the fix for it. I hate rattles!!!!

I finally got round to sorting my interior out - so thought I'd do a quick write up.

I ordered my Liquid Leather Scuff Master treatment kit from http://www.liquidleather.com - in the order form or if you call you specify the make, model and year of car as well as colour of leather. They then send you out the kit pre-mixed to a sample they hold on file. If you have any reservations about colour matching then you can always send them a small sample of your leather and they'll match it for you - although in the kit you do get 2 small bottles of toners to make up for any slight variations.

Here's a picture of what you get in the kit as well as some other items you might find useful for this job:



Kit contents:

GT12 Liquid Leather Cleaner
GT11 Liquid Leather Conditioner
Scuff Master Touch Up Kit (contains 1 x bottle of premixed dye, 1 x light toner, 1 x dark toner, 1 x gloss enhancer and 2 x sponge applicators)

In addition to the supplied kit you might also want to consider the following:

Rubber/latex gloves (if it can dye leather I'm pretty sure it can dye skin! lol!!)
Small artist paintbrush or cocktail stick (for application of neat dye)
Cotton cloths/rags
Methylated spirits
Small plastic bowl

Step 1:
Hoover your interior and seats

Step 2:
Clean all of your leather interior thoroughly with the supplied GT12 Liquid Leather Cleaner. You can use a small nail brush or old toothbrush to agitate the cleaner on stubborn areas and then make sure you clean off all the residue and leave to dry.

Step 3:
Once dry - wipe down the seats/interior with a mild solvent like methylated spirits and dry.

Step 4:
Take your pre mixed Scuff Master dye and apply neat to a small crack/scuff with your cocktail stick/brush and wait for it to dry. Once dry inspect to see how accurate colour match is and add toner to adjust accordingly. Once you are happy with the colour match proceed to paint in the remaining cracks - I found that this worked best by working along the creases and not try to over paint areas that shouldn't have dye applied. The same applies to scuffs - apply a slightly diluted mix (10-20% water) to the scuffs with the sponge applicator.

Step 5:
Leave the dye to dry for around 1 minute then wipe off with a damp cloth (work along the direction of the cracks/scuff) and repeat Step 4 if necessary. Once you are happy all of the scuffs/cracks have been dyed then move onto Step 6.

Step 6:
Prepare a colour wash for the treated seat - for my first colour wash I mixed around 80% dye with 20% water and applied this over the seat. Again I let this dry and then rubbed down with a damp cloth. I was quite happy with the match/balance of the colour at this stage so mixed my final colour wash which consisted of around 20% dye and 80% water and added a little drop of the gloss enhancer I received with the kit. This colour wash was then applied to the seat and I left it to dry (24 hours).

Step 7:
Take the GT11 Leather Conditioner and work this into your leather until it is completely absorbed. The aim here is to apply an even coat and make sure you work the conditioner completely into the leather. Areas which are particularly dry may require repeated application - just be patient and make sure it is worked in properly.

Step 8:
Job done! - with any luck your interior should look something like mine!

Can someone out there tell me if the interior dome light is on the same circuit as the lighted visor on the drivers side? The dome light was working when I began to clean up the car the other day, but in the process I did something that will no longer let my dome light work. I did remove the visors cuz they wouldn't stay up any longer and noticed the drivers one had wires going to it. I just cut them and taped them off. Any chance that was my problem or is the dome light be connected to another source and I did something wrong somewhere else?

Been trying to find a colour code chart for the Interior of a Volvo V40 cdi 1997, so I can get a colour repair kit for the leather seats.

The seats are a light tan colour that can look grey in other light. The dash is a milky coffee colour with leather and wood stearing wheel and other wood effect trim in the car.

The codes on the plate are 322-12 which works out to be a Burgundy Pearl Metallic Paint and the second number which maybe the interior code is 7950 then the last number is 15.

Any ideas?

1992 volvo 240 wagon brake lights do not work the switch is good the bulbs are good. The bulb sensor light is on so wondering if that bulb failure sensor has gone bad or how to test it. Any ideas would be appreciated

my 98 s70 center colsole plastic around the gears shift is all cracked up. i think its due to the sun, because its just a plastic piece that is made to look like a wood finish. does anyone else have this problem and if so can i get it replaced?

This is for a 2003 XC90. My nephew said when he put gas in my car that the fuel door just fell off. The hinges are still there but we can't re-attach it. Any help?

I should be ordering a brand new interior trim kit shortly as my current one's got too many scratches.

I think I'll give the old scratched trim a shot at decal art. Since I'm about to throw it away, what have I got to loose?

Here's how I picture doing it:
1. Scotchbrite
2. Couple of base coat of plastic paint
3. Apply cool decal
4. Couple coats of clear coat.

I've never tried anything like this... anybody have tips or experience in this???

Recently painted my sons grille in his black 850 GLT sedan black. Like the way it turned out. I'm thinking of painting the grille in my white 02 S60 white. What do you guys think? Don't hold back. I'm a big boy and I can take it.

Ok, so I have decided that I want to install an HID conversion kit, but am not sure how to get around the daytime running lights. I have a 04 xc70. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good dependable HID kit, I found some kits at pilothid but am unsure...any suggestions??

Anyone know if these are easy to install, or have had any dealings with these.

I have a 79 244 that has terrible fenders and nose, lights etc. BUT I also have a 245 that is in fine shape in the front end just the back is wrecked .. Is it possible to make the from end from the 245 fit the front end of the 244? both have nice motors and 4 speed transmissions so I might try to scab them together .. anyone try it ..

Has anybody had any success in tinting their taillights? I have no idea how I would even go about doing this, but I eventually want my 850 to be blacked out and I dont want bright red taillights ruining my dream!

I'm trying to pull the bottom trim off of my 1991 240. You know, the 4" gray plastic before the body curves down to the underbelly? Who knows how this is attached? I was looking at it and believe its just adhesive but want to make sure before yanking at it.

This is all happening b/c I'm painting it soon and want that trim off so I can have a smoother look on the car.

Sharing shop space with a body/paint guy is a dangerous thing. I got this wild hair for some suicide doors, and he's not exactly the voice of reason. I don't imagine the Volvo crowd is into such nonsense, but just in case....anybody seen/done it? I'm thinking 'bout it on an 855, rear doors.

I just removed the volvo badges off my 850's front fenders and replaced them with sidemarker lights. The old badges left a ton of old dry glue residue around the lights...it looks real bad. My local car wash was nice enough to spend about 15 minutes on it with a pressure washer and everything, but there is still some left. The car is a '96 so this is some old glue were talking about...

Anybody know of a good product that might get this off my car?

Hi - my 850 has an external door trim strip missing, but it isn't the flat one it's the 3 dimensional smaller version. Are these the same as on the 7 series cars?
