I have a 98 s70 and was looking to replace my old stock unit with an alpine deck. I heard that it might be hard to install is there anything special i need besides the deck and the wiring cables to install the deck?

There have been a significant number of posts from people frustrated by their inability to add an MP3 player, XM or Sirius satellite receiver, or other audio input to their 2004, 2005, and 2006 volvo (XC90 and other models) when equipped with the MOST audio system. My 440 TD broke down this week with a flat battery. I had to disconnect the battery and open the car with the key.
Now the alarm light flashes fast continuously.

I apologize for the noobish post since car sound systems aren't really my thing.

I just got a 2004 (1st gen) S40 and I'm LOVING it ... except for one thing. The area around the rear speakers rattles terribly, to the point where playing music with any sort of bass makes it almost completely unlistenable because of the vibration from the back. I'm not exaggerating folks, it THAT bad. The front speaker housing for the door speaker is also a problem, but less so than the rear. The previous owner really abused this car, I can tell. Good news is that the car is still under factory warranty until December.

My situation: the way I see it, this is a factory system (premium sound) and its good enough for me, but it has no earthly right to rattle THIS much. I've driven real pieces of junk in the past and the speakers didn't give me much of a problem.

My questions: is it normal for these factory speakers to make the housing rattle this much in the S40? Is the assembly really that shabby? Anyone else have/had this problem in their S40 from the getgo?

Also, would I have to put in some dynamat for a STOCK system for this (I have no plans to upgrade the speakers or add subs), or do you think that opening up the housing and tightening everything up would do it?

I have a '97 850 sedan with radio SC-710 I believe. I have an old G3 ipod with 0 battery life left. So I decided I want to use it as a music player in my car. I've tried both the tape deck adapter and the radio transmitor and dislike the sound quality of both.

I had the idea to use the cd changer input to input the audio from my ipod. I did a quick search and someone else was able to do this but with a different car. Does anyone know how this could be done with my cd changer input? Or anyone have the diagram for the input? I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron and know enough about electronics to do something like this. Thanks.

[B]Parrot Bluetooth 3100 looks/feels same as Volvo BT kit - but it has caller ID. BT through Volvo is supposed to go through car speakers/mute radio for incoming calls/etc... I really wanted the caller ID version over the Motorola non-caller ID - it's been at Tweeter's all day today - they can't figure out how to connect speakers as radio unit is all fiber optic.

Just curious if anyone has tried the Parrot - comments/advice/anything?

The radio in my '88 740GLE quit on me and I can't find another that's worth buying, so I figure I'll just install my Pioneer CD deck. The problem I have is that the car has an EQ and two DIN plugs on the back of the radio, as well as the 6 wires that connect to the radio; but the wire adapter that they sell doesn't come with the DIN plug, nor does my car have a plug that the adapter plug that's available fits. Is there a way to properly connect the aftermarket radio without having to rewire the speakers? Is there any possible way to still use the EQ?

This is my first car. It is 1995 Volvo 460 gle 1.8i and has the power of 105 sweden stallions I would like to have some more power, but i'm still student so i can't afford insurance for stronger engine at this moment.

Hi everyone

I have another post about a subwoofer hook-up that i have, and i am ashamed to say that the only way i could find to run a wire from the battery to the inside of the car was through the driver side front door. After hooking up fog lights (that double as strobe lights, how cool is that?), and and LED underglow for below the driver and passanger seats, the hole where my wiring is coming through is getting a bit crowded.

Im sure there is another way to run the wiring, i just can figure it out!!!

Hey guys this is my first post, i definitely think this site is pretty cool and might be pretty helpful to me, since i do alot of work on my car (94 850 SW turbo), and sometimes, need some different opinions than my mechanic friend, (we're both around age 17).

Well my question right now, is about installing some subs, 12 inch ones to be exact. I bought subs and an amp, and when i went to go hook them up, we couldnt find an audio jack behind the stereo for the interconnect cable from sub to stereo. BTW I have the stock stereo for the car. I spent around 50$ for the subs and wiring (great deal i think), and i was wondering if someone could maybe tell me either; a different way to hook-up the subs; how much a professional mod on the stereo would cost; or whether or not i should buy a new stereo (which i was gonna do within a year anyway, for an ipod jack)

previous owner of my car had installed aftermarket CD player, but he didn't installed it correctly. The radio have removable front panel and if you want to connect panel to the main radio, than it slides backwards. The body of radio isn't tightened in the cage. How can I get into the center console to fix radio position in the cage? I don't have any owners or service manuals for car, so I need help from you, guys.

I just got a 2005 S60 2.4. Its got the HU-650 radio. I'm going to be putting in a sub and i was wondering which wires i plug the amp into. I've read about the volvo's having a factory amp in the car, but i couldnt find it, its not under the passenger seat, behind the dash maybe? If its behind the dash would it be easier for me to splice into the rear door speakers? I've got an adapter that turns speaker wires into rca cables and i think from a highlevel to a lowlevel, that i used on my previous car, but I dont remember if i spliced in before or after the amp, does it matter? im thinking that it does but i'm sure.....I've hooked up an amp before but i am by no means an expert. Thanks in advance for any help!

hi, i just got a used sc900 and the left side of the display that shows the frequency, tracks, etc. is way darker than the other side. all the other bulbs on the radio work - are there bulbs in that display and does anybody know how to get to them?

I'm starting my second stereo instalation. (the first was a 99 grand voyager :@}. I have a panasonic head unit that puts out 50w to 4 channels rms, but also has gold plated 4 volt preamps if I were to add a speaker amp. In addition to that I have a jl 250/1 amp mated to a jl 10w3v2. I also want to install front and rear speakers. The car is my new (used) 98 v70 t5 and I have a couple questions:

First, I listen to a wide variety of music - Phish(Jam), Mars Volta (Hard rock/ metal), Atmosphere (Rap), and Rush/Floyd/Zepplin(classic rock). those are the extremes(I guess). I am looking to set up a wide frequency stereo with all components equal. Basically i'm not looking for ear piercing highs or wildly strong base. I'm looking for Very clear sound through the spectrum. highs mids base.

1 I have to run power from my subwoofer amp to the battery and need to get through the firewall. does anyone know an easy way through, preferably without drilling.

2 Speakers - I thought about building kickpods for the front but space is very limited. the passenger side isnt too bad but on the drivers side the hood release gets in the way. I looked at the bottom of the door pannels and theirs a lot of open space for a speaker cabinet but building into it seems difficult. my plan now is to install either 6.5" or 5.5" component speakers in the stock locations (dash and top of door). My question is do kickpods really add that much midbass over mounting in stock locations and are they worth the design/build time.

3 Speakers - I'm pretty picky about sound quality but not an audiophile. Is the 50 watts per channel from my head unit enough or should I get speaker amps. If speaker amps are the answer, how much power.

4 Subwoofer - I hear that jl seriously underrates their amps, could I add a second 10w3 to my 250/1? I have to build a new box too, and i'm planning to port it. My first box was basically a sealed rectangle and I want to get a little wild with this one, any thoughts?

5 I have read about needing a code for the stock head unit, what does that mean? Should I find the code before removing it?

I'm asking a lot of questions, dont feel like you have to answer all of them. I'm new to forums so i'm really excited to hear what you have to say, any direction or opinion is very appreciated. THANKS

Hi, searched the forums of this site and other sites for a good hour before I posted, wanted to know if anyone knew what was going on.

I have a SC-816 cd player in my S70 and it will only play normal cds that are manufactured or whatever. I am burning them in the correct format (as far as uncompressed at 4x) as far as I know. I have tried MP3 and Wav, neither have worked, both times I put the CD in the CD-player and it makes a noise for a few seconds and spits it out. Personally I don't think that it is the type of CD that causes the problem, but if are sure, I will take your word on it.

Anyone have the same problem?

Brand new 2007 V70 owner.

I'm military in the UK, and just bought a US specs V70 (literally 24 hours ago). Unfortunately the radio is set for US frequency steps (only odd-numbered decimal MHz steps for FM and 10 KHz steps for AM).

I have a 2004 Saab which has a procedure in the Owner's Manual to switch this from the US system to the European (EVEN AND ODD decimal MHz steps for FM and 9KHz steps for AM).

Searching the web, I seem to have found a procedure for OLDER Volvo car radios in which you press and hold "5" and then turn on the power to the radio (while still holding the "5") and it gets you into a menu that permits this change, but that does not work in my car and is not described in my owner's manual.

Does anybody know the steps to switch this radio from US to European radio frequency steps?

I recently purchased a 2001 S80 with a 6-cd changer in the trunk. unfortunately i am unable to figure out how get it to work, there is little or no documentation on this changer. the best i can tell from the nearly impossible to find data on the internet i should be able to access the changer from the source button. however i only can see the console cd player (tape am/fm). the changer seems to load properly i hear it going threw the cds but i still can not access it. any help links pdf etc on how to get this to work or on how to troubleshoot if it is even working would be greatly appreciated.

I bought a set of pan european dvds model number 30775819 from ebay as my 2003 XC90 just had an old single disc covering UK only. I checked that this was the right set of discs for my model. I inserted the first disc and the screen said loading new software. When it had finished the screen retracted and now refuses to come out! I have even tried putting the original disc back in, but still no life. I can hear the machine reading the discs so it is not a power thing. Does anyone have any advice?

I recently bought the new volvo s80 D5 fully accessoried and, to my surprise, the OEM bluetooth phone did not pair with my nokia n80. I tried with the old 6600 and still have a lot of problems. It seems that my bluetooth only works with a couple of models of very old nokia and motorola. I was promised a software update in a month or so but no news yet.
Anybody can help????

Ive gotten as far as making a solid ground in installing my remote starter on a 85 740 gle sedan.

Does anyone know where I should go from there? I know I have to sauder the accessory and ignition wires, but the instructions I got are very confusing.

1998 S70...

Three years ago, the antenna stopped coming up all the way; didn't seem bent, and no amount of WD40 would loosen it. So, we replaced the thing and it worked great for a couple of years...

Then, about a year ago, it started coming up halfway again. We've put up with it for long enough, in my opinion, and I'm about the break down and buy another replacement, but is it normal to have to replace these things every 3-4 years? Should I be lubing it up once in a while just for maintenance? Or is there something else going on here?

Problems using a CD R in My Cd Player:

I've the Scr 901 Stereo (i think), with the 3cd changer on top, but i can't seem to play CdR's that i've burnt myself. Is there a certain type to use, or a certain program to use (i used media player), or do they just not work at all???

I am new to Volvo forums. I am looking at putting an after market cd player in my 2001 Volvo S60, but am a little curious as to what I all need to purchase to make the switch from the factory deck. Do I need wire harness converters/adaptors? Antenna? Any help would be much appreciated!

I have a XM system that is running through my tape deck. I want to see how or if it is possible to install it to my existing radio? I have a 2002 S60 if that helps.

I just sold my 2001 V70 T5 and picked up a 2004. I kept the factory subwoofer and tried to install in the new car. I know I'll need the dealership to download software, but it seems there were changes to the car that make it difficult to fix. Does anyone know if they made any changes to the area under the subfloor o these ars between 01 and 04?

I realize that there have been numerous threads posted on this, but I have searched the forum thoroughly and no one else has experienced the same problem that I have had.

The stereo system on my 1998 S70 had the battery replaced prior to being sold to us. We acquired the "code" from the dealer. We followed the instructions to put the ignition on the first position and leave it for 2 hours. The menu changes from "OFF" to "CODE", just like normal. We then enter the four digit code and then menu displays "CCCCCC", and then returns back to "CODE". After two attempts, it returns to the "OFF" display, not allowing us to re enter. The dealer suggested pressing "seek"; however, there is no button labeled "seek" that we know of.

What is the proper procedure for entering the code. We must be missing something?

The amplifier on my '89 760 only works for a couple of seconds at a time when i go over bumps. I accessed the amp by removing the driver's knee panel under the steering wheel. If i give it even the tiniest tiniest tap it works for a second or two. I took it out, took off the side panel, reconnected it and tapped it while looking inside to see if i could spot anything obvious with no luck. I did manage to get it working like that and reinstalled it but in a few minutes was back to cutting out again. The problem is not with the wiring to the amp but in the amp itself. Is this a really common thing by any chance? Is there a problem part in there anyone knows of? Is it possible to pinpoint the problem component through testing and replace it? it really doesnt look overly complicated in there, and i almost know what i'm doing:) I love this stereo and just wish i could get it working right!

Please help. The Hu-803 in my S60 flashes CD-Error ever 5 or so seconds but plays CD's perfectly. The TV and Sat-nav in the car have stopped working.. Well, the TV tuner still works as you can listen to it and tune it in etc but the screen does not come out the dash.
If I disconnect the silver unit in the boot and the multichanger the hu-803 stops displaying 'TV' in it's display so I guess it then no longer thinks it has a TV tuner or sat-nav facility but the CD-Error message persists. I originally though it was a fault with the mulitchanger or the silver control unit in the boot but if that's disconnected and I still get the error I am wondering if it's the head unit it's self. I have checked the fuses and they all seem fine, I don't know what else controls the screen or what else I can check.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am looking for an Ipod adapter for the XC90 that can be connected directly to the vehicle's stereo and will play through its speakers. Volvo sells one for a number of its models, but not for the XC90 and I cannot find an after-market adapter for the XC90. Does anyone know whether there is an Ipod adapter available for the XC90?

Is anyone successfully using a Treo 650 with their Volvo Bluetooth?

I know that the Verizon Treo 650 does not work with Volvo's BT. Before I switch to another cell provider, I'd like to know if anyone has been successful in using their Treo AND the Volvo Bluetooth. If yes, which cell provider?

I already have the compatability chart and realize that the Treo phone is not on the list. I have heard 2nd hand comments that "someone" has developed a patch that will allow the phone to work with the Volvo hands free system. Any information on this?

My 1989 760 radio display says "off" when I do the key trick and get it to display "code" I typed in a 6 digit code that the dealer gave me, pressed "aut" and it said "rpt". I tried again until it said off, did the key thing and called dealership again and they gave me a slightly different 6 digit code saying they must have given an incorrect code. The code didnt work once again and i'm back to "off" I called again today and the service dept was closed but the guy on the phone says hes never heard of a 6 digit #, only a 4 digit. Any tips? Am I doing this wrong or something?

But I am probably doing it the worng way. My name is Omar and my son has a 1996 Volvo 850, non-turbo. I joined the forum to share stories about fixing up the car, and to get information from 850 drivers about how they go about keeping their cars in good shape.

I listened to my center speaker in center of dash and it does not produce any sound? Is that because I do not have the premium sound system? There is a grille cover in center of dash but perhaps they do not install a speaker for the HU 650. Is it possible to install one on my own and improve sound?
