OEM Ipod adapter appears generic and will fit all S60, S80, V70, XC70 models. The kit comes with Ipod Owners Manual and The installation manual (posted) and instructions are pretty good as you can see. I have posted additional picture for those who are interested in attempting this installation themselves.

You can see 4 cables on the installation manual but only 2 is required depending on whether the car has NAV or not would determine which 2 cables. These cables are only necessary for vehicles that do not have an existing CD changer.

The OEM Ipod adapter is basically a rectagular black box with a long white ipod cable coming out of it. It has 2 inputs, a power socket and a DIN type socket which is the same as the ones on the Volvo CD changer. Since there is only one AUX input behind the Volvo stereo, you can only use the ext CD changer or Ipod adapter. Not both.

If your car has an existing CD changer at the back, installation is much easier because that wiring prescribed by the manual already exist. Steps 16 through to 27 on the manual can be eliminated. You can interchange the DIN and power from the CD changer and connect it to the Ipod adapter. Should you sell you vehicle, the new owner will have the option of using the existing Ipod adpater or to reconnect the CD changer. This just leaves
1. removing the centre console steps 3 to 6
2. rear seat cushion sill trim step 7
3. seat belt step 8
4. routing the Ipod cable to center console step 13 to 15

Installation time: about 60mins for vehicles with existing ext Volvo CD Changer.

If you are happy to have your Ipod adapter sitting in the boot, no installation is necessary as you do no have to run wiring into the center console.

Construction of ipod housing in S80 center console.
Instead of drilling a hole in the existing recessed CD holder, I removed it completely (Fig.1) and constructed a new housing. To remove, insert screwdriver, push down and lift.

(Fig.2)
Cut 3 or 4mm particle board into 2 sizes
- 113mm x 132mm for bottom board
- 120mm x 186mm for cover (to be covered by felt later)
Then file the edges back (as much as 4mm) as the console platform is actually a little concaved.
Cut matching felts, fold over edges and glue. (fig.3) I use hot glue gun because it dries quickly.
Cut 4 pieces of 12mm rubber insulation sheets (see your local air-conditioning/industrial refrigeration installer for off-cuts.)
115mm x 125mm - base that is glued to the bottom board. Ipod sits on this.
117mm x 130mm - cover and hides Ipod should false bottom be opened. (visit link to see installed Ipod mods)
45mm x 105mm/93mm (trapezoid shape matching base angle) - glued vertically to edge of base. This is the sidewall (fig.5) that seals the side gap in the center console and the ipod connector comes through here. Tuck in part of the sidewall to seal side gap.
117mm x 130mm - glue the last part on the edge of the bottom unfelted portion of lid. (fig.4) this should sit on the recessed portion of the center console, especially if you have a thinner ipod like the video ipod.

Glue a small offcut felt to create lip for easier access.

According to Ipod manual, Ipods do not like extreme heat. I have heat tested this, parked it in the sun, windows up. Ipod was still cool being sandwiched by these 2 insulation foam.

I am wanting to get a "new" stereo for my 940. I listen to AM radio mostly, but would love to have an Ipod connector. I want it as cheap as possible. I don't need any of the bells and whistles. Any ideas?

I have a 1999 V70 T5. I am looking to get a couple subwoofers and an amp to beef up the bass in the car. The speakers are fine, at least for now.
I have someone who can help me make a box and install everything, but he is not informed on prices or what to buy.
So I come here: What relatively cheap subwoofers and amp should I buy, and any ideas on where I should install them in the trunk?
So far, I have thought of against the back seats, and on the sides of the trunk by the wheel wells.

My iPod nano works fine and played fine through my new C30s stereo. Then one day it stopped working. What happens is the car recognizes the iPod fine and I can surf all the songs, but they never start playing. I can actually fast forward, to say 10, 15, 35 seconds, but then it just stays at that time without playing.

Called the dealer but they want me to bring it in - it's 2 hours away. Wondering if this is a known issue or am I doing something really dumb.

since I bought my 2009 S40 back in Jan 2009, I've had nothing but problems with the connectivity between the stock stereo and my iPhone (3G at the time, now 4). Most of the time after trying to connect to my phone for what seems like ages, it comes back with the message "Unavailable", at which point I have to disconnect and reconnect. Indeed the connection is only successful perhaps 1 in 5 connections.

I've tried 2 x 3G iPhones and now an iPhone 4, both with the stock software and jailbroken, along with a couple of OEM iPhone USB cables and one non-OEM iPhone USB cable to be sure it's not a problem with the devices or the USB connectors - it's not.

Is this a known problem with the stock audio system? Is there a way to alleviate this problem? I'd initially wondered about replacement of the stereo, but the dash seems so customized and the fact that the stereo integrates with the car's computer system makes me wonder if it can even be switched for an aftermarket system.

I'm interested in getting A2DP bluetooth audio so that I can stream my music over the air without the need for cables, is there a hacked firmware I can flash the stereo with to get this working? That would bypass the problem entirely as I would no longer even need the wire.

Any information that helps me solve this nagging problem would be extremely gratefully received. This has been nagging at me for 18 months and it's finally pissed me off enough to make me seek a solution.

Got a new XC60 with "Performance Sound" incl. USB interface. If I plug an USB stick with MP3's in I can browse through the content, hear music, go to next or previous song, etc., all works fine ... but is it normal that I can not stop the player nor that switching to radio or CD stops the player? For instance: if I am at song #5 at 1:23 min, then switching to radio for 2 minutes and then back to USB I am automatically continuing song #5 at 3:23min. Also if I am in radio mode from beginning and the USB stick is in the slot it starts automatically in background at song #1, 0:00min and never stops ...

I have a 2007 S40 with the Premium Sound package and sometimes when I am playing my music really loud the sound just stops. The system is still on and everything is "working" but there is no sound coming out. When this happens, it's not enough to restart the audio system......even stopping and restarting the car doesn't work. I have to completely turn off and leave my car alone for about 30 minutes before I can get any sound again. And then it works normally again. I am assuming this has something to do with the auto volume control feature, which I currently have set to "high". Is there any way to totally disable this feature and let me play my music as lond as I would like for as long as I would like? Or does this sound like it could be a different problem?

I have an 01 C70 Coupe and want to know what the mounting depth of the woofers in the doors is and how much is available for an upgrade.

Sorry if there is already a clear answer for this. I have looked at this board and others for the answer and cannot find an answer. Last month I bought a 2009 S60 with a HU-650. While there is aux option on lcd screen there is no sat option. Is there anyway to add sirius to the unit itself? If not, what would be an easy aftermarket unit to install that has sat input and will still work with the steering wheel controls? Crutchfield and Bestbuy web sites are not helpful.

I've seen a few topics on the forum related to similar issues but none specifically that might provide me with a 'why' or 'how' answer
Driving to work this morning I fumbled with the volume or so I thought and might have inadvertantly pushed one or more of the preset station numbers - none the less the result was the radio/CD player went into a mute and try as I might any number of menu operations and collective button responses up to and including shutting the ignition off, I could not get the radio or CD volume to respond - now mind you everything else about the device appeared to be working fine - all related menu displays indicating a disk was playing or that the radio station was broadcasting --
So I wonder if I either accidently activated some sort of mute (and if so how do I un-mute it)or is this some quirky trait of the device/car I will have to live with
When I went to lunch about four hours later, low and behold the radio/player worked just fine volume and all when I started the vehicle
I purchased this used and there is what appears to be a control device attached to the console that indicates a possible hands off telephone application was once or currently installed -- there are a few buttons on this which leads me to perhaps suspect a mute relationship with the radio system when an incoming call is recognized - so maybe I pushed or leaned my hand on that -- I have only had the car for about a month now so I am all about learning it's nuance -- sorry for the long description but I'm all about detail when it comes to problem resolution

How do I tell what model HU I have in my ride? I am in desperate need to find out if in fact the factory HU has changer capability, if so would I be able to install an AUX in?
I saw the following solutions:
*(Dension Gateway 500), but still confused about the install and performance.
* MII LE- by IMIV, really confused now.

Damn, I just want to stream Pandora from my phone(headphone jack) that sounds clean, and easy to install!

Just got back my custom install of a Kenwood nav/DVD head unit in my 05 V50. I will take some better pictures when I get home and have a better camara insted of my phone. But here it is. The center channel?speaker was removed to reposition the stock control screen. The work was done very well and wraped in leather to match the dash. Camara left some funny shadows that make it look a littel wierd. I also now have an Aux input and USB port.

My wife just bought a 2010 XC90. It is very basic, no NAV and it has the single CD stereo. She really wants bluetooth for her phone that plays through the car's stereo. Our local installer suggested the Parrot kit, but said that he would have to mount an external speaker because he couldn't make it go through the stereo. The Volvo dealer can install the OEM unit, but they want $650 for it. Anyone have ideas or info about what direction to go? Is the Volvo kit the only one that can route the calls through the stereo?

i have install a rti dvd navigation system on my S60 ( i buy this system from a incident v70).

When i start car the indash monitor popup and display a complete white screen. When i stop car after 5 second the indash monitor go off and popdown.

Where is the problem? How i can check this problem?

Recently picked up a 2008 XC90 with approx 30k miles - it came equipped with NAV, 6 disc changer, and rear dvds (in the headrests). I am looking to add the following bells and whistles to the car and was looking for some recommendations.

1) Sirius Sat radio - would love to have it integrated into the current dash if possible - not sure if car is pre-wired - how can I tell

2) Bluetooth - would love to be able to use cell phone hands free through radio

3) Remote start - nice on the cold wintery days.

Would love recommendations for any and all options if possible.

I just bought a 2007 XC90 with the factory rear seat entertainment system (RSE) which has the DVD player in the top of the center console and the two screens in the headrests. But it was missing the remote control for the DVD player, and the headphones. I have ordered new headphones off of eBay, but I cant find the remote anywhere. Does anyone have an extra one? I'll buy it off of you! Or does anyone know where to get one?

Wondering if anyone has ever put a 2 Din radio in the 2000-2004 S80. I can't find a mounting kit anywhere for this car. I know they sell a single din, but I really like the 2Din. Thanks

Hi, I'm sure this has been asked on numerous occasions but i'm yet to find a definitive answer to my query.

Basically I have a 2002 S60 with OE CD player. I am wanting to fit a double touch screen that is has bluetooth and is compatible with the steering controls.
I have found the unit I like but am struggling to find out if it is actually possible to use the steering controls of this S60.

Will my S60 be canbus on a 2002 and is there an adaptor to interface between the steering controls and a JVC or Pioneer HU?

I recently purchased a used VCT2000 box from eBay but unfortunately it didn't come with any cables. I'd like to build my own Diagnostic Link Cable (from the car's OBD-II to the VCT2000's DB25 connector) and I was wondering if anyone has the pinout specs for the VCT2000 or access to a diagnostic link cable to do a closed circuit test and let me know which pins report a short i.e. Pin 1 on OBD end shorts with Pin 7 on DB25 end.

hi there, i want to see if it is ok to use h7 100w daytime bulbs in my 2001 s40 instead of the h7 55w. i do a lot of night driving and more light on the road would be great, but dont want to have to call fire service !!!!

Hi, I'm new to this forum and also new to being a Volvo owner. I just purchased a 2004.5 S40 about a week ago and I have been loving it. Since it is my first car there are a lot of things I want to do to it to make it "my own". I want to get a new head unit for the car so I went to best buy to get an estimate on how much they would charge to install it and they told me that they do not do any electronic installations in Volvo's, BMW's, and Volkswagon's, because whenever the car gets inspected or serviced for something mechanical the dealership or the inspection people use some sort of tool that would ruin the radio's wiring. My question is, is this true and am I able to get a new head unit and speaker system for my car and if so what are some good brands.

I have just recently bought a 2002 V70 and it had the option to have the additional CD Changer put in to he boot of the Car. having looked at getting this done and adding up all the different price to get the various bit I think it far to expensive

So I have spent countless hours reading post and not getting very far. I have been able to find the information to be able to make up my own lead to plug in the the back of the head unit in to the CD Changer but the head unit doesn't see the lead or the audio when audio is played!

Anyone know how I can fool the unit into accepting a line-in to the CD changer DIN socket?

Im not looking to at any of the Ipod cable as I dont Own a Ipod, the Fm Mod im not really interested in as I have a basic one that I plug into my Mp3 play but am fed up with retuning the radio ever hour im after really a hard wired solution to go into the Din CD Changer socked on the back of the head unit!

I have a new v50 that I love, but I can't get my ipod to be readable. I read somewhere that volvos aren't compatible with classic ipod gen4s - has anyone heard the same thing? Or is it a software glitch? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm new here but don't know what else I can do.

I have a 2007 XC90 D5 and last week I got my upgrade DVD for the volvo RTI system.

The DVD player is under the drivers seat. when I swipe the front panel vertically to eject the dvd I hear the sound of a dvd ejecting, but it won't come out.

Is there a way to get this thing out? the DVD which is in the player still works fine but is out of date.

I read that it's a common problem (with dvd players in cars) that the eject mechanism is damaged by the vibrations while driving.

any help would be appreciated

I just got a 2006 Volvo S60 R, and it has the optional in car phone in the dash. I've been having trouble finding any info about the unit, and I've tried searching the forums here with little or no luck.

How does the phone work for service? Does it use SIM cards for service? If so, where does the card go?

My other thought was to remove the phone bit and put a blue tooth deal in place so I can use the headrest speaker and mounted microphone those wires rather than add a completely separate blue tooth that interrupts the stereo signal (like the Parrot).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

First off.. Hi guys, this is my first post and yes I have tried searching for this problem but couldnt find anything.

Well my problem is I have the Volvo 805 headunit (sc-805?) and from what I gather there should be 8 speakers in total (2 on dash, 2 in each door panel and 2 in rear side panels). The problem I have is the subs in both doors are not working and I have no idea why. I recently purchased the car but the radio didnt have the code so I only found out the problem when I got my code from volvo.

Also I need to purchase a new tweeter for the dash as 1 of them has died.. anyone selling any spares?

I recently got a new smart phone which pretty much replaced my iPod, so all of my music is now on my phone. I was wondering I currently have the Volvo iPod adapter hooked up in my car. Is there a way to simply modify the setup to just have an aux input via 1/8 jack? If not, is there a similar Aux setup that's compatible with a 2005 Volvo S60? Non-OEM is acceptable, price is definitely a concern.

Within the last day or so, many of the Volvo dealerships and parts retailers have begun to promote the seasonal rebate program for select Volvo accessories. One of the dealers in Seattle has gone a bit further, and is advertising a special for the purchase and installation of the Garmin Nuvi 765 system for $500.

I've seen a few other posts related to the look, ergonomics, and software of the Garmin setup. However I have two questions about the system before I would consider taking the $500 plunge...

1.) Does the audio feed directly into the car's, or is it pumped out via the standard mono speaker in the GPS unit?

2.) Bluetooth hands free: Again, can you take or make a call and hear the other line through the car's audio system? Or is it only through the GPS unit?

3.) Bluetooth A2DP: Same question here - will streaming transmit through the car's audio?

I suppose if the answer to #1 is No, so too would #2 and #3.

I would really like to have a nice bluetooth handsfree set up in my Volvo. I originally thought of going with the Volvo/Motorola handsfree kit, but learned that it does not support A2DP, which is a disappointment since I listen to music through by Blackberry Bold.

Any answers or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I have a 2005 V70 with the HU-850 unit. I also have the RTI Sat nav where the little screen pops up fron the centre dashboard speaker. Now the sat nav is fine (doesn't accept zip/postal codes tho) but I'm not overly impressed with the stereo. If I were to go for a new head unit would I lose the sat nav?? Also would I lose the use of the controls on the steering wheel?

If I can't change the head unit without losing these I'm going to spice the factory fit unit up with a sub / amp using a line out convertor. I know removing the unit to access the rear will be a headache but does anyone know the wiring layout at the back? I need to find:

rear left +ve
rear left -ve
rear right +ve
rear right -ve
remote amp on/off

If anyone knows the layout or colours I will be eternally grateful!

Can anyone recommend a really good car audio installer in the 95993 (US) area. I want to get a modulator installed in my '06 S40 and I'm afraid to let my sausage fingers near the delicate (expensive) areas I've seen in posts about self install. Thanks!

Does anyone know if the aux input (for ipod use) came standard? If so, where is it located in the vehicle? Or can I get one installed? Help! I just bought pre-owned car and I LOVE my ipod!!

I will be installing an aftermarket amp and subwoofer into my 2004 Volvo S60. I have previously done the same install in another car. I am using an RCA line converter to feed the audio to the amp. I've been searching for days for the correct wiring diagram for the HU-613 and have found three different diagrams. Does anyone know the correct wiring layout for the HU-613, or at least the constant power wire, ground, and rear speaker wire colors? Thanks for any replies.

I purchased a used VOLVO 40 HU-615 RADIO CD CASSETTE PLAYER. The player does not work, when I installed the player, it only display a massage which says "OFF" and it does not enable me to go any farther than that. I think the seller was aware of this problem since on the player they have written "OFF" in big bold letters. Can anyone help me resolve this problem.

A friend of mine own a C70, everything is working well except the center speaker in the dash. He would like to replace it with a new one. Does anyone know how to remove the speaker without damage the grill cover and the top dash skin? Also want to know your views on Kicker speakers, because he found them at http://www.dealrocker.com with good discounts.

I have a 04 S80 with the HU-611 radio and my research has concluded that there are basically 3 main options for ipod integration:
1. Neo Prolink PODVOLHUV2- icarkits.com $180
2. USA SPEC PA11- amazon.com $99
3. iMIV LE - www.imiv.ca $200

So which one is the best as far as audio quality and ability to use steering wheel/radio functions (and radio display?) ???

About a year ago I installed a new head unit and speakers for my 240 classic and got a mastersheet from crutchfield when I did.
I lost the stupid thing in the last year.
I’m trying to install a sub in the trunk, and I just need a good idea of where to run my power wire and rca cables to it. I also would like to know how to remove the trim along the floor so I don’t break it…

But .. my built in bluetooth isn't really working great with my HTC Touch 3G.

From what i gathered it all depends on the bluetooth version of the car.
I just checked and I appear to have 05_07_R (which i suppose is may 2007).

Could somebody tell me what the latest version of the bluetooth software would be (05_09_R ??)

I want to temporary disconnect the passenger airbag so that a child seat can be fitted sometimes. I've inserted a relay in the + (green) wire near the passenger airbag (85 in the Haynes Manual). Now with the relay closed the SRS warning light is on? The green and white wire to the airbag were in a sleeve which I cut into to get to them, this sleeve appears as dotted line in the manual. Is the sleeve conductive in some way to detect a break in it which is causing the SRS warning light to come on?

Ok, so I’m sure there are others out there that have been thinking of installing an aftermarket Navi? I just happen to be in the middle of doing it and I have some info and need some advice. I have purchased an aftermarket pop up display (really nice BTW) the unit comes with a factory mounting bracket and a speaker grill replacement. Anyway, now that I have found the display I obviously needed to figure out what I was connecting to it? After spending a bit of time on the phone with Kenwood USA I went with the following items. 1. KOS-V500 (control/menu), this unit is basically home base for all the hardware. It gives you an options menu and remote control. Connected to this unit will be (all from Kenwood) 2. Bluetooth (parrot makes for kenwood) 3. Hideaway Navi (Garmin makes for Kenwood) 3. XM Sat unit 4. Rear backup camera 5. Audio/Video Ipod connector (also Kenwood. 6. DVD video (connected to headrest monitors as well). All of these components actually work very well together.

Here is the question? My installer is questioning how the audio aspect is going to play through the speakers? I called Kenwood and they told me to have the installer splice into the speaker lines coming into or from the Amp. I'm not sure I understand that? My installer says that isn't possible. Now I'm getting a little nervous. Someone, either the installer or the Kenwood rep doesn't know what they are talking about??? So I was thinking, what about using the AUX input? The KOS-V500 has very simple RCA jacks for the audio output. So it seems, in theory, that we should be able to connect the RCA jacks from the KOS-V500 to an input module into the AUX port in the back of the radio..? WILL THIS WORK?? There doesn't seem to be that many modules out there. I found a cheap one on ebay.

Maybe someone has crossed this bridge before and I don’t have to do it again. I have a 2004 S60, I am interested in replacing the factory stereo with an aftermarket one. Chutchfield says they have no information on Volvos. I a looking at purchasing a double DIN DVD unit, but I don’t want to lose the function of my Volvo GPS and my stereo controls on the steering wheel. I like my toys in the car I want my Zune to plug in, have Sirius built in and Bluetooth. Any recommendation, wiring kits, and install kits let me know.
