Does anyone have an electronic copy of a parts catalog for a 2007 XC90 V8 that includes Volvo part numbers and schematics.

I am wondering if anyone else has heard of this problem and solution. On a 6 hour drive to Los Angeles, my 2004 Volvo XC 90 has a severe "thump" in the front end, which is then followed by a very brief (split second) internal (meaning dashboard lights, hi-fi, dome lights, etc) power failure. Initially, the power failure would last only a split second and then car would continue running as normal, and there we no error codes or check engine lights.

But on the last long drive home, the "thump" was harder than usual, and the lights internally completely went out, hazard lights could not be turned on, blinkers could not be switched on, hi-fi went out, etc (though the electric windows would work).

I pulled over, and turned the car off and restarted it, and the yellow exclamation point dashboard icon/alert lit up, and a service message flashed referring to the anti-lock brake failure, and that the SRS needed to be checked.

This problem has been occuring for a couple of months, and is very intermittent. Before this last incident, I took it into the dealership in Los Angeles, who could not figure it out,. Now that I have an error code, I have it at another dealership in Northern California, who seems equally mystified and have told me that they dont think the error code of check the SRS is going to fix the problem.

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions? The engine thump, followed by electical failure seems really weird, and when i search the internet, there doesn't seem to be anyone else that is having the same problem.

My wife and I are considering the purchase of a 2008 XC90 V8. The VIN and CarFax checks out, but one photo raised some questions. When did Volvo change the spacing of the "VOLVO" logo on the rear of their vehicles? My wife and I thought it happened after 2008 (all of the 2008's that we have seen shows the letters close together). Has anyone seen a 2008 XC90 with the wider spacing on the rear lift gate? I have included the photo in question. I also noticed a dual tailpipe which I have not seen before. This vehicle is listed as a 2008 V8 Special Edition. Does anyone have any thoughts? My emblem on my airbag has lost a lot of the paint and doesn't look very nice, but I also don't want to pull the whole thing out for 700 dollars. The top and bottom of the circle seem to move quite easily, but how can I get the whole thing off and not deploy an airbag in my face.

I can get something like a knife under it but I don't want to crack or break the emblem. I just want to get it out, sand it down in the bad spots and then spray paint it again. Then I'll just put it back on.

Can Anyone tell me how to get it out without breaking it or deploying an airbag?

I added headphone adapters to my xc90 part #8685789 the car was prewired all I did was plug them in they have no sound nor can i control the radio

2002 S80. Please for the love of god, someone help me! It's not in the fusebox in the engine bay. I didnt find one under the drivers side panel, or the passenger side. Does it look funky? or am I looking in the wrong spot?

On my 2006 XC90 (5cyl)I have this problem after an accident.
When I press the brake pedal "Anti Skid Service Required" Lights up.

Does anyone know anything about this? Or how to fix it?

I have a 2007 XC90 V6 and the passenger side rear door lock suddenly stopped functioning when using the key. If I double click the door unlock button on the key all other doors and the cargo door unlocks but not the passenger rear. The same issue occurs if I manually unlock that door and then click the LOCK button twice, it will not lock. The other problem is if I press the interior lock button none of the locks will lock or unlock. Does anyone have a clue to the cause. The battery has not been touched so I should not have lost my software and I am not having any other issues.

Our 2.5T XC90 is displaying its engine light and I have found the following symptoms (with the help of the mechanic who extracted some error codes):

Signal too low on:
- turbocharger control valve
- camshaft reset valves (intake and exhaust)
- canister purge valve.

These signals are too low because the fuse supplying power to these devices has blown. I have tried disconnecting all four devices and the fuse still blows. The fuse box lid says this fuse (number 5, 10 Amp) powers "PCV/valves/fuel leakage pump". Since I've disconnected these valves, the only things I have left to check are the PCV and fuel leakage pump. I don't know the function or location of that pump, so let's leave that till later. What does the PCV mean? I know it's positive crankcase ventilation but why is it electric? And where can I find it and its connection? I need to disconnect it and see if it is the fault.

The mechanic says he can't hear the turbo and that means it's not spinning and is stuffed, requiring replacement. I'm not that pessimistic and I don't see how a seized or leaky turbo could cause this fuse to blow by itself. I'm sure we're getting little or no boost but I suspect that's caused by the turbo control valve remaining in its off position, letting the turbo do nothing.

Can anyone help me with the location and function of the PCV unit? And the fuel leakage pump? If neither of those turns out to be the problem, I'll have to investigate a fault in the wiring to all of these things and I don't want to do that. But I'd still rather do that than replace a turbocharger...

I have a 1999 V70XC Cross Country. The fan for the ac/heater is not working all the time. When I first start the car the fan doesn’t turn on, no matter what setting. Then other times is will work just fine. Sometimes it will work for a time then stop. I see that another posting says that it might be a transistor. Any help would be appreciated.

The radio/CD audio system on my 2005 XC90 2.5T recently died - when pushed power button, nothing is turned on. I rarely used it, so I don't know exact time when it failed. As a result, the backup sensors also stopped working, as I heard the alert sound comes from the audio system.

I went to the dealer shop and they diagnosed the issue to be the bad ICM module. They gave me a quote of US $1,200 to put in a new one. However, they mention, due to the bad ICM, they cannot test if any other parts connected to it are functional, ie, if the backup sensors are still good - they may or may not work when the new ICM installed.

I don't know much about car mechanics and would like to check the forum to see if anyone has any experience with the ICM module issues. How serious is the problem? Should I go for a fix asap? Will the sensors work after the new ICM installed? The dealer shop called Volvo US and Volvo is willing to contribute $300 to the repair cost. Is this type of failure common for XC90s? I have just over 70k miles and have been following all maintenance schedules. Do you think maybe I should ask Volvo to contribute more (50-50 split) as I read through the post, it seems not that common issue.

I just bought a 2008 XC90 I want to upgrade the audio system but haven't had much luck finding out what's available for this vehicle. Presenty, i have the 6 cd changer system but it's not the Dolby pro logic II deck with surround sound. I also want to have xm or sirius radio installed. I called a Volvo dealer and they can install Sirius (only) for around $800.00 however they can't offer me an upgrade for the audio system, only a new sub woofer? Has anyone on the forum installed an after-market system? I called a custom audio shop and they won't even work on Volvo vehicles due to the complicated electrical system. Thanks in advance. T.

The dealer claims this switches on tow assist.
I thought this was only an XC60 feature (because it shares tech with the landrover disco 4 and freelander)

Hi All, Just joined the forum. I have just taken delivery a week ago of a Volvo XC90 SE Geartronic. I put a few options on it but sadly, assumed that the High Performance stereo would be just that, high performance. I am very disappointed. I am finding the sound to be echoey and lacking in depth and bass. I have been told that the car would have to go back to the factory to be upgraded but that they won't do it. They have said that they would have to strip the car down again because of the fibre optics involved. They won't even quote me a price on it.

I have fiddled about with the graphic equalizer but just can't get it to sound right. I turned all the graphic equalizers up to full and at the end of one journey, even though the volume was fairly low, my ears were hurting. Does anyone have experience of this and if so, what the best settings are for the equalizer? Volvo have been very unhelpful and have more or less laughed and told me that I should have gone for the Premium Dynaudio system.

Unfortunately the unit has no navigationsoftware on it, so I'm searching for a way to put it on and how/what/where to sotre it.

Has anyone done this before and know how to do/place it?

I was driving on the highway and pushed the shift lock override button thinking it was overdrive. The car started slipping in and out of gear and the check engine light is now on and a blinking arrow pointing forward. What can I do to fix this? I just got this car for my wife and now it's broken. Someone please let me now what I can do now to fix this.

I recently purchased a Volvo XC90 2006 with navigation. I went through the setting but the unit does not have any voice guidance. When I go to setting and choose male or female and the volume, I can hear the voice but not on the map.
It also does not reclaulate route when I go off the planned route? Any idea, I cannot seem to find any other setting to check.

When I accelerate and turn left at the same time in my 2005 XC90, the transmission seems to slip and then grabs suddenly. It's scary when pulling out in traffic. Anyone familiar with this problem?

Hello. The driver side window was left down during a small rain event and some rain got inside the Volvo XC90 AWD 2004. All windows, locks and the passenger rear view mirror working except the driver side. I am not able to close the driver side window, electronically lock the driver door (using either remote control or diver side control switch), and although the light comes on when pushing the main control to adjust the rear view mirrors, the driver side mirror doesn't move. The middle dashboard button to close-in the rear view mirrors only works for the passenger side rear view mirror. The driver side switch works fine in controlling all functions except for the driver side (including locking and unlocking, rear view mirror and all windows).

I checked the fuses and they are all fine. I checked all including the driver side door fuse.

In summary, the driver side door has problems with all its electronic functions except the driver side control switch--this one is working fine for all its uses.

Your help is appreciated.

I am in DIRE need of a Xenon Headlight assembly with ballast for the driver's side of a 2004 XC90. Apparently the headlight is cracked and when it rains water gets in the headlight and shorts the ballast. Please help!!

I just had my XC90 serviced at a local Volvo Service center and the Tech forgot to reset the 'Regular Sevice Required' message on the message center.
Is there any way that I can reset this myself?
I know on some other cars there is a way to reset the message center w/o going to a service center.

I recently installed an aftermarket HID headlights conversion kit on my 2004 XC90. The new HID headlights work great. However, I am getting a warning message that I have a "buld failure" warning but my bulbs is not failure. I took my XC90 to the dealer. They said that my H11 bulbs use 55w and my new HID bulbs use 35W which caused the computer to issue the bulbs failure low beam message. They said they can not reset the warning message. The warning message does not affect performace it just annoying. Does anyone experience the same problem? If so, is there a fix for this that anyone knows? Thanks.

I had a quick look around (and in the Car Stereo forum also) and can't find an answer to this. Dealer wasn't that knowledgeable and I wondered if anyone on here may know a little more and potentially save me £500 quid (£300 for a Dension Gateway 500 and £200 for installation). I also submitted the question below to Dension in the UK and USA so hopefully we've got all angles covered. I'll report back any information that I get.

Basically I have a Volvo XC90 04 Model which should be okay to to work with your Gateway 500. The only problem is that it doesn't have CDC (assuming that CDC means multichanger). I've spoken to Volvo who have offered to fit one for a huge sum of money - however it seems a little daft to pay a fortune for Volvo to put in a CDC and then immediately remove it to connect my Gateway. Do they need to? Can we get away without? The dealer seems to think not but are prepared to attempt to fit the Gateway **instead** of the CD unit (but of course accepting no liability if it doesn't work ). Is this going to work or must there be an original in there first? I offered to try and get a CD player from a scrap Volvo but the dealer seems to think that this wouldn't work either! Can you offer any advice?

This is the Pioneer AVIC-D3 stereo custom installed in my 2005 XC90. It came out really nice despite there being no double din insert available for the xc90. a single din was modified by hand and worked beautifully. We have navigation, sirius satellite radio, ipod, and hands free bluetooth installed with it along with the cd & dvd. Also has rca jacks to plug in playstation in the glove box.

Cost was about $1,800 installed done last November. Also interesting was the factory stereo had to stay in the vehicle and was mounted under the passenger seat because it controls a lot of functions int he car including alarm, auto locks etc.

2004 XC90 2.5T 150,000 miles

My XC90 makes a funny low grinding noise when the engine is under load in drive. Whether I put it in drive with my left foot on the brake and rev it with my right foot, or if i'm driving, if I give it enough gas (maybe 1/4 throttle) or more, it makes a low grinding noise that seems to come from the front. At lower engine loads, there is no noise.

If I let off the gas and coast, the noise stops.

Accelerating or loading the engine in reverse does not cause the noise.

The directionality of the noise let me to motor mounts. They all look good, but the top mount may be loose, I don't know how its supposed to look. When applying the brake and switching from reverse to drive, the top of the engine maybe moves 1".

My Bevel / Angle gear also has some oil weeping from it. With all wheels on the ground and the transmission in park I can turn the driveshaft by hand freely with no binding or resistance whatsoever. I think this means my bevel gear or coupler is shot, but looking for a little confirmation. I have a hard time thinking the noise is from the bevel gear because the noise occurs even when the car is stationary with my left foot on the brake and right foot on the accelerator. The bevel gear only moves when the wheels do, correct?

I have a 2004 XC90 that is having starting problems intermittently. It's been in different shops at different times and they cannot get to the bottom of it. There is no rhyme or reason why but it just won't start intermittently. Cold, warm it doesn't matter. New battery, new fuse box the whole thing and nothing. I get good power, it just won't turn over. I wait a few minutes, try again and it may or may not start. I get goofy error messages occasionally too, like anti-skid is off, immobilization see manual. These messages go off after I finally get the thing going. I thought Volvo was top of the line? Unlike the others, I don't loose power while driving, it just doesn't start on occasions for a few tries. Any ideas or has anyone experienced the same situation?

I noticed a grinding noise coming from the front left portion of my 2004 XC90 following a front brake pad replacement and asked the dealership to fix it (thinking it was a dragging brake). Found out the Angle gear is bad. They quoted $1850USD for the part alone. I remembered them fixing a leak in the angle gear just 10 months ago. Based on posts on this and other blogs, couldn't it be a failure of their repair (ie--loss of fluid) that caused the gear to go bad? Or is there another cause?

I see that this is a known problem (have read several posts on the net about XC90's and bad angle/bevel gears, as well as transmission issues), but not sure if it can be pointed back to one issue.

I did find the comments below on another post, but it was in reference to the angle gear on an S60R, not sure if it applies.

1. The part is ill fitting from the factory, knowing this Volvo injects epoxy into the collar gear before fitment.
2. The poor fitting gear caused the epoxy to crack and fail.
3. The collar gear being subjected to teh AOC coupling/decoupling the rear wheels causes the fill fitting splines on the collar gear and the bevel gear input shaft to "bang" into one another.
4. The play in the collar/input shaft increases as teh collar gear deforms and wears the input shaft splines.
5. When the deformation and wear is sufficient, the weakened splines on the collar give way.
6. The splines from the collar gear wear the input shaft down as the now failed unit spins around the input shaft.
7. The longer one drives with the failed AWD, the worse the wear becomes.

It seems to me that if is a known problem, it should be covered by the dealer. At a minimum, I think I have a case for them to warranty the "leak" they fixed 10 months ago that may have caused the problem. Would appreciate any insight!!

My 2004 XC 90 T6 AWD has approx 82,000 miles on it and it runs great. I have two (2) issues I'm seeking advice on:

1. When making a left turn under throttle, the engine revs as if the transmission or gear box is slipping, but once the wheel straightens out the car continues under power. At no other time in any other condition does this occur. I can hear maybe a growling sound fron the left front tire. Could the CV Joints/Drive Assembly have failed? If so, I know the dealers want about $1,800 to replace both front driver and front passenger CV Joints. If this is potentially the issue, how difficult is the job if I want to replace these myself? I'd actually just replace the entire driveshafts/joints on both sides. I'm a car nut so I have all the tools. Is there a link for how to complete this repair (pictures/instructions etc)? I don't want to have to go out and purchase a repair manual just for this job.

2. I also have a very severe engine oil leak. The dealer claims this is the head gasket leaking and they quoted me about $5,000 to fix it. I laughed. The car is worth just a few thousand more than that so I might as well buy a new car. Is this a common issue with the 6 cylinder twin-turbo engines?

Any advice or anyone who has had similar experiences and could offer advice or feedback would be appreciated.

This is my first post to any type of Forum.. I purchased a 2007 Volvo Xc90 4.4L V8 and I am proud to say that it is the best looking & driving SUV on the road. It took me a long time to make the purchase, but I am happy that I did. My only beef are the little rattles and squeaks the center console makes along with other doors and the dash.. wonder if anyone else had these problems or am I the only one?

Well, I am contemplating an extended warranty through Volvo that would cover my Xc90 for 84 months (from in-service date), or 100K. This all adds up to a price tag of $2400.00 which I hear is a pretty good price. But like everyone else I was wondering if anyone would recommend another warranty they have or even some advice on why I shouldn't by the warranty at all.

This is my first European automobile and I plan to keep it for at least 10 years. Please give me your advice asap, I only have till May 1st to purchase the warranty at this price, other wise due to mileage and time, it goes up 800.00.

Currently my Volvo Xc90 has 29K. So far so good...

Local Buick Dealership has a 2007 XC90 3.2 $21,500.00 24k miles. car was on a 2 year lease in Flordia. one owner Car Fax verified Drives really good. I like the 6 cylinder, although I read where it can be a little weak. Looking to purchase a car and drive it for the next 10 years. White with ivory interior. No sunroof no 4 wheel drive but thats ok this is North Carolina, Thank for any comments good or bad.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. We just purchased our first Volvo. Its an XC90 T6 AWD. I have never owned anything except Mopars so this will be a learning experience for me. Any tips or things I need to look out for? 3 days in and very impressed so far.

I could use some advice on replacing the front wheel hubs. Like many others, I've replaced the rears once the bearings started making noise. It wasn't much harder than doing a brake job. Trying to do the same on the fronts, I couldn't see how to access the four hub bolts since the drive axle is in the way. My only guess is to disconnect the lower control arm. Any suggestions? Also torque specs would be appreciated too.

I recently bought a 2008 3.2 xc90 and it makes a clunking/popping sound at low speeds, usually when slowing down or under light acceleration. It doesn't seem to be the transmission because the shifting is really smooth. It sounds like it could be the air compressor or blower turning on and off, but I wouldn't expect it to turn on and off that often. I also don't think its the suspension because it makes the noise when I am going straight on a smooth road. And it only has 14,000 miles so I don't think any bushings are worn. This sound is coming either from the engine or the bottom of the car. I was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem or if they know what it could be.

I just bought a XC90 2003 AWD T6 (driven 200000 km) and I have now started to hear humming noise from the rear.
I can also feel a little vibration between 50-60 km/h.

When speed increases over 60 km/h the vibration dissapears, but the humming is rising. Tires used are 22" 265/35 (Dunlop). Can somebody please advice if this is normal on this model of XC90?

Hi first time poster. I went to change the fuel filter on my 2004 xc90 D5 last night albeit in the dark but could not find it. i checked on a few forms but they said it was under the passanged side door this could have been a petrol version I don't know as I could see nothing. I did not remove the skid plate but this is my next step. If anyone could spread some light on this it would be great..

The drivers windows when engaging the auto up will close then go back to it's previous position. I physically have to keep the button engaged for the window to close... Otherwise, it works... Any suggestions? Thx...

Hi, first of all a quick intro, I'm joe and I'm 16. Obviously the xc90 isn't mine it's my dads, but I'm the techy one in the family and have therefore been asked to try and sort this out.

My dad paid extra to have the RSE work as a digital tv unit as well as just a dvd player. We're having problems with this though. I've gone through the scanning process many times and it seems to work in my driveway. But as soon as we start moving it cuts out and asks to start doing an auto-scan. We're going on a holiday tomorrow and the drive is 2 hours long. Any tips on getting a signal that will work wherever we go, without cutting out as we move around?

I just bought my first volvo (2008 XC90) and I'm pretty exited about it!
I'm trading in my lovely 4 doors jeep.

First thing I am thinking about changing is the GPS. It looks like the 2008 model does not have the live traffic information. Did anyone do something like that ?

In my jeep, I changed the radio to a KENWOOD DNX9960 which had a Garmin GPS with a life traffic NAVTEQ box.

I would appreciate any past experience that you can share, or any hints.

Does anyone know which fuse works the auxiliary port? My wife's ipod won't play through this port, even though the same ipod and cord work fine in my truck.

Hi Everyone, I have a 2004 XC90 T6 AWB and have been recently embarrassingly been bogged on a beach even with the DTSC off I am getting no wheel spin,the engine was just torqueing down, anyone got any ideas?

I get a surging or jerking feeling from the XC 90 at about 40MPH give or take a couple miles per hour almost a bucking feeling. The engine seems to remain the same RPMs no variation. Has anyone else experienced this? And what is the solution?

My 6 disc changer in XC90 now says disc unreadable on all 6 discs.........copies or real ones!!
The discs will load fine and then will come up disc 1 track 1 try to play then disc unreadable
This happens on all discs ie 1,2,3,4,5,6
I am then able to eject the disc

any ideas.........i am in the UK

Is it back to the dealer or local ICE shop?
