Hi guys,
I'm new here and this is my first post. Nice to meet you all!!!

My second baby is coming soon so I want to replace my 2003 RX330 for a 7 seater. After all the searches,XC90 is on the top in my list.
I can't afford the brand new car so I have to go for a second hand XC90. Could anyone here tell what the differences are among 2003,2004,2005 XC90?
Also, is the 3rd comfort enough for medium-sized person?

I am wondering if anyone else has heard of this problem and solution. On a 6 hour drive to Los Angeles, my 2004 Volvo XC 90 has a severe "thump" in the front end, which is then followed by a very brief (split second) internal (meaning dashboard lights, hi-fi, dome lights, etc) power failure. Initially, the power failure would last only a split second and then car would continue running as normal, and there we no error codes or check engine lights.

But on the last long drive home, the "thump" was harder than usual, and the lights internally completely went out, hazard lights could not be turned on, blinkers could not be switched on, hi-fi went out, etc (though the electric windows would work).

I pulled over, and turned the car off and restarted it, and the yellow exclamation point dashboard icon/alert lit up, and a service message flashed referring to the anti-lock brake failure, and that the SRS needed to be checked.

This problem has been occuring for a couple of months, and is very intermittent. Before this last incident, I took it into the dealership in Los Angeles, who could not figure it out,. Now that I have an error code, I have it at another dealership in Northern California, who seems equally mystified and have told me that they dont think the error code of check the SRS is going to fix the problem.

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions? The engine thump, followed by electical failure seems really weird, and when i search the internet, there doesn't seem to be anyone else that is having the same problem.

Any advice you can offer would be appreciated. Thx, Brad

I just got a 2004 xc90, and had some issues with the dvd drive. At first I didn't think the nav disc was inside, but then I tried just putting any dvd into it, I realized there was something there. I took it apart very carefully and managed to remove the disc (2003 blah), I put it back together properly and re-hooked it up. The nav recognizes when the drive 'door' is down and the little inside lights are on, so I'm sure it's connecting fine. However, trying to put the nav disc back in, the drive will not pull it in at all. I've tried pushing it gently over half-way and nothing.

So my questions are:

1) Can I get a replacement drive anywhere specific ?
2) Can I replace it with a different year/model if easier to find ?
3) If anyone has a newer dvd.. wink wink nudge nudge ?

Wondering in any owners of 2003 2.5 Volvo XC90 AWD have ever had problem with front wheel spinning and not actually experiencing any transfer of drive to rear wheels.

I understand my vehicle to be predominantly FWD and if traction is lost it very quickly transfers the drive to rear diff as required. I found this to be the case on a gravel drive shortly after i purchased. However recently the same test on the same drive saw me sitting spinning and going nowhere!

I rang a volvo service manager in Brisbane he says external speed sensor which sends message to DEM Diff electronic module may have failed, and when these fail the DEM does not necessarily detect any problem which is picked up by diagnostic tests, and therefore does not send message to DEM and DEM does not activate rear drive. The DEM could also be stuffed,

Any ideas from anyone as to what problem might be??

Dealer injected dye into air conditioner system on my 2006 XC90T5 and found leak coming from condensor/dryer (?), located in front of the radiator. Of course this is another $1400 repair. Is there an option to replacing the condensor/dryer?

Good Morning All. I'm new to this list but have been on others for vairous other cars I own.

We have a 2005 XC90 2.5T AWD which has been very nice. Using a single all weather tire however in Idaho has not met my expectations (Nokians). They are good, but constant trips to ski where we often encounter deep unplwed snow, routine blixxards and months of glazed over roads exceed the tires capability. I am planning to purchase another set of wheels and some studded tires for exclusive winter weather. I currenlty have 17 inch rims and I understand 17 is the smallest that will fit. I would be interested in others recommendations.

just bought a xc90 T6 and yes have transmission problems.
After reading all the items on difr. volvo forums I was wondering if there where owners with no problems and what would be the best to avoid ( as much as possible) these tranny issues.
Could imaging tranny flush every 50.000 km or so and non aggressive driving?.

Has any one taken the route of communicating with volvo about this problem ? ( any luck ?)

Does any one know if the repaired tranny's are stronger then the original ones ? , because of the upgraded parts from GM. This was told by one of the repair / revision shops here in the netherlands

Just bought an '03 2.5T AWD with 97K for my wife. Love it btw. I have a company fleet account with Valvoline and essentially get everything at VIOC free to me.

I am planning on having them swap:

-Antifreeze
-Front and rear diff fluid
-Full Syn oil change

The only thing I'm a little skittish about is doing the transmission fluid there, only because some trannys need the pan dropped and wiped down. What do you guys do for the transmission fluid?

Was wondering if anyone out there was aware of a way to remove the CD changer in an '07 XC90. My son decided to stick a coin in there and now some of the 6 CD play slots don't work. I've seen other posts with similar problems (sadly enough) and some posters have referred to a method of getting at the CD changer but I haven't been able to find any instructions for the layman to go by. To avoid taking the car into a dealer (1+ hr each way), waiting days for a repair, and maybe paying through the nose, I was hoping I could do the work [carefully] myself.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate the help.

Trying to remove the plastic part on the inside of the rear passenger door to pop out a dent on the outside. How do I do this?

I just bought the Akebono pads. Can someone recommend a good rear rotor that will work well with the Akebono pads? I was looking at Brembo, Zimmerman and Centric. Are any of those good?

I have been having this problem with my XC90 (2007 4.4L V8) for sometime now and the dealer can not find the problem. They tell me its the tires making the whine, but the tires are new with only 3k on all the wheels.

It only happens at 55 miles per hour and a I notice if I manually down shift to 5th gear it completely goes away.

The Whine starts softly at 50 and increases in sound right to 55 then disappears around 60.

Its something I could prob live with due to the fact that I have dealt with it this long, but it is a 50 thousand dollar car.... it should be right.

Let me know if you have any thoughts or ideas.

Just put new rotors and pads on the front. Easy once I got the bolts broken loose. Steps I did:

1. Jack car up and remove wheel.
2. Apply Liquid Wrench to the two caliper (18mm) bolts, tapping and spraying every few minutes.
3. While Liquid Wrench is penetrating, remove holder spring on the outside of the caliper, bending clip under spring to remove (this clip is part of the pad, so don't worry about keeping it nice and neat).
4. Remove the caliper, working it loose because the pads are probably depressed under the outside lip of the rotor.
5. Hang the rotor with wire to the spring.
6. Pop out the outside pad by pushing it to the inside of the rotor.
7. Remove the inside pad.
8. Clean the caliper with Brake Cleaner, remove all rust and buildup.
9. Remove the 10mm nut off of the worn rotor, then pull the rotor off. Bang it on the outside edge parallel with the center of the rotor towards the other side of the car. Mine came off with one hammer tap.
10. Clean behind the rotor, remove all buildup with a wire brush.
11. Put the new rotor on, install and tighten the 10mm bolt. This will hold the rotor on.
12. Slide out the pad guide and grease the pins; replace if pitted or worn.
13. Put grease on the inside pad's metal tabs, then align and push the pad into the piston.
14. With a reverse clamp (I did it with the wooden end of the wire brush, forcing the piston back in the hole, centering the pressure on the center of the pad), push the piston back just where the pad (the part that touches the rotor) and the pad guide line up.
15. Push the outside pad into its slot.
16. Clean off the caliper bolts with the wire brush and the holes on the caliper. Put high temperature Loctite on the bolt threads.
17. Put the caliper on the rotor and fasten the bolts.
18. Put the spring clip back on the caliper, making sure the center tab holds in the pad clip.
19. Put on the wheel.
20. Finis!

Please feel free to adjust this as necessary, these are the steps I did and hopefully it can help someone else out. There might be something I'm missing and my disclaimer is to always consult a qualified mechanic before attempting work by yourself!

Does anyone know if there are any restrictions to import a 2005 Volvo XC90 T6 from US to France? Is there any technical changes you need to do to get it approved by France laws?

Hey guys, Heres the problem with my 04 XC90, I did a tons of research but still no luck. I recently replaced my front brake pads with Ceramic Autozone Duralast a few months back, now the back pads and rotors need service. I just got my Akebono Volvo Brake Pad Set in the mail and noticed the rear passenger pad and rotor are metal to metal, which brings me to my questions.

1. Can I use the rotors from Autozone with the Akebono brake pads? If not then where should i get the rotors from?
2. Can I replace the rotor for just the passenger rear or both sides is recommended even though only one side is mess up?

Its really bad when I brake so anyone please help. Any comment is greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

Due to the bith of my two daughters I am looking for a new car. Due to my lenth (1,90 meter) and my wifes lenth (1,80 meter) and of course the fact that we now need to take a lot of stuff with us we are looking for a car with enough room for a comfortable ride. While looking around and making testdrives in several differnt brands and models we more or less fell in love with the Volvo XC90. Untill now this is the only car that has enough (leg)room for the whole familly. And due to the prices of gas where I live (the Netherlands) the D5 seems to be the best and most economic option.

While reading through the topics on this forum I noticed that there is a lot of information about the gase models but not so much information about the diesel model the D5. I have also read al lot of information about transmission and tyre wear problems that scared me a littlebit. Reason being is that this is not a cheap car and although I know the car needs to be maintained I would like to keep the prices for this maintenance reasonable instead of getting bankrupt due to the extreme maintenence costs.

My idea about Volvo is that is is a safe and reliabale car brand similar to the Audi I currently own. However reading all the information on the forum I doubt whether that is indead true and whether the XC90 is the car to go. Of course I know that a forum is always the place where people share their bad experiences or ask help to fix something that is broken. If everything works fine people usually do not search for these kind of forums and if they do they most likely are not going to tell you that everything is perfect and there is no better car than this. They are probably guys like me looking for as much usefull information as possible to make the right decision and try to prevent myself for disaster (meaning spending all my money on keeping the car roling)

By the way I am currently looking at a D5 Momentum Mobility 7 seater, blue metalic, 18inch wheels and beige leather interior with aluminium inlays from beginning 2005. It is a 163 hp model so not the later 185 hp model and the meter is on 108000 km so not to bad for a diesel I think.

My question to you all is whether you can supply me with more information about the D5 model. For instance is the tire wear problem also an issue on the D5 model, is it based on the model or on the year the car is build? Is it true that the D5 has less defects than the other models or is the D5 model simply not that common in the countries where the members of the forum come from?

I would like to have an idea about the average realistic maintenance this car needs. I have spoken to the dealer and he supplied me with a list of the costs involved in the regular 30K checkups the car need. However these are just the costs of the actual checkups and not for the material/parts needed. So what I would like to know is how often do you need to change brakes, tires etc. What are the most common parts to break after a certain amount of time. What about the reliabillity of the D5 engine. With other words what should I be prpared of when buying this type of car.

Any help or thougts are appreciated so hope you can help me out here!

I have an 04 XC90 with high-performance audio and the 6-CD in-dash changer unit. Suddenly, the CD player is no longer available and the infotainment unit acts as though it is just a radio. It also no longer comes up with the "high performance audio" message upon switching on- it just goes straight to the radio. The CD buttons do nothing, including the eject button, so my CDs are now lost in the unit. There are no nasty noises from the unit, and no error codes, so it is not as if a CD has become stuck.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this? And more importantly, what I can do about it?

Turn on the car, the radio, may or may not be working.... if it's on, it will randomly shut off. if it's off, it can randomly come on. If we bang the dash, it will come on.
Sometimes when it does come on, there is a very high frequency sound coming out of the speakers.

We took it to the Dealer and they told us that we need a new module. (it's a module that sits under the passanger seat) it would cost $900!!!

Has anyone had this problem?

I have a 2004 xc90 2.5T AWD with 47K miles. Is it required to change the antifreeze on this Volvo model or is the antifreeze change not required? My owner's manual doesn't specify antifreeze change as a maintenance requirement.

Hi everyone I am new here. I am looking for a 2004 T6. I have yet to find my car because I want it fully loaded, and it seems very hard to find one with all nine options (I don't count the leather knob and net). I want a Silver Metallic (1) T6 with the versatility pkg (2), climate pkg (3), premium pkg (4), Navigation (5), PDC (6), wood steering wheel (7), Xenon lights (8), and lastly the security pkg (9) which seems impossible in itself to find. Ever since a kid tried to break into my range rover when the windows were open, and the motion sensor set the alarm off and scared him away, I will not get another car without this feature. Unfortunately it is only available in the security pkg which is very very rare. It includes Infrared windshield & front side windows, Laminated side windows, a level sensor, and a mass movement sensor. I know that the tinted windows are omitted, but this is a package I want. Does anyone have the security pkg that can chime in? Or does anyone know where I can find this exact XC90, because for months I have been on ebay, autotrader, cars.com etc and I have found nothing! The way you know if you have the security pkg btw is if you have the button by the power folding mirror or rear ac or PDC or DTSC button that has a car with little horizontal lines inside the car showing the motion sensor.... Anyone have it that can chime in?

This is driving me crazy!! I have an XC90 2004 with HID headlights and DRL. Everything works great except I don't have any high beam lights on either side. The indicator shows in the cabin but no bright lights. Both bulbs check good and light up with power applied but they will not come on in the XC90. I checked for 12 volts at fuses 20 and 21 in the engine compartment fuse box and it is there when the bright switch is activated. Help Me!!

I purchased an aftermarket headrest DVD system -- the Rosen AV7500. I really like it. The headrest matches perfectly.

Like many of the other types (vizualogic, etc.) the wires run through the headrest posts. You are supposed to fish them down through the seat. Unfortunately, the tubes inside the seats for the headrest posts do not appear to go all the way through. I can't fish the wires through. It appears that the internal tabs that lock the posts in are blocking the way. I tried with a wire coat hanger, and I can't get it through. Any thoughts?

I have a 2008 XC 90 without a 3rd row seat. Does anyone know if I can have one added now and if so what would be the best place (dealer, body shop, etc) to have this done?

I have a 2006 Lexus GX 470 that I am looking to replace in September. I am seriously considering a 2009 (2010 if available then) XC90,
but all of the negative comments on this forum have me second guessing- Maybe my second choice BMW X5 is the better choice! Are there really so many problems with this vehicle, or is this ust a sounding board for those with problems. When I go to a5oc.com (audi a5/s5 owners club) there are complaints, but everyone is so in love with their
car (as I am). This forum makes me feel that most owners are dissatisfied. Please enlighten me.

i had an audi with leather seats a few years ago, even with aircon, hated them, sweaty a*se and sticky back after a longish drive. Swore never to have leather seats again, but was told the quality of leather in the XC90 is better, and there wouldn't nbe a problem. Well, the hot weather has arrived and i got uncomfortably sticky sitting in the M25 road works for an hour!(& this is going on for 58 weeks!) Is there a decent looking custom cover for leather seats to prevent you getting sticky? Or failing that, does anyone want to swap half-leather for full leather? (beige)

I have some minor issues and projects I would like to do.
Issues:
factory remote doesn't move my seat to the memorized position when I unlock the doors only my mirrors
My windshield wipers don't spray. Only the headlight spray works when pulling back on the paddle.

Projects I am working on and will post when completed:

In the middle of the dash ( Where the sat/nav option would be) I will try to install a docking station for Ipod or DVD
Detailing the car with in and out trim
Upgrading and modifying the turbo or Blow off valve

Any input and/or appreciated

I have a 2006 XC90 and I am having problems with the mirrors that are on the side of my car. I dont' think they are supposed to fog up or let rain pile up on them when it's raining. Today it is pouring out and they won't get clear. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? It used to not do this. If anyone knows please let me know! thankS!!

Has anyone had their third row seat get stuck in the up position? I googled online and someone mentioned a clip possibly being broken. If this has happened to you, is this something I should take to the dealer or would another mechanic be likely to fix it.

Looking at a second front brake job and really want to avoid the dealer. Just dont trust them to quote me the discard thickness on the rotors accurately and the parts are out of sight.

Any thoughts on a decent alternate way to go about this ? How hard is the job anyway ? What is the discard thickness on the front rotors ?

It’s a 2006 2.5T AWD, and my original factory warranty is about to expire. Should I take it the dealer to run the full diagnostics on the car? Should I take it to an independent mechanic for an independent check of all major items (e.g. transmission, engine, bearings), to catch anything that is about to die? What are the major “trouble points” in 2.5T that I should pay attention to? I want to make sure I don’t miss anything major that may be failing, so I can ask the dealer for repairs now, not when the factory warranty goes away.
The car seems to be fine overall. The only major problems I’ve had in were a few episodes when I could not start the car. They replaced the starter the first time. About a year later same trouble, same symptoms, but that time they said it was software update issue, and applied the recall related to battery.

The only other thing is that I hear some rattling and clicking when I make a sharper turn, especially when the road sloping down a little. The rattling is coming somewhere from the front wheel area. The dealer replaced the “right-side bolt” somewhere (I didn’t go into details) and it got better, but did not totally go away. Should I be concerned? I don’t know if it relates to bearing, but I’ve heard that bearings can be a problem with this car.

i recently bought one of thise mobile phone holders that attach to the (central) dashboard heater vents, but after using (& removing) it i find that only the centre blade on the vent moves with the "lever" - this is the one attached direct to some kind of cog - the others don't now seem to be attached to anything and just flap about - looking at the other side they should be attached near the bottom to what looks like a plastic bar with teeth on it - i can't see it properly on the side that's working, but it seems to have disappeared altogether on the side that doesn't work. Does anyone know how to get these vent grills off to get access to the inside? I had a tentative attempt at levering with a screwdriver, but it didn't look as if that was the way forward & i don't want to do any damage...

hi I have a 2004 t6, 90000 miles, Last week I blew the output shaft seal on the passenger side, needless to say it is in our local volvo shop getting replaced $500 later. During this repair they have done a bumper to bumper inspection and come back with a list of items that need repair, some are basic maintenace like timing belt, motor mounts front end work, but they also said that the head gasket was leaking and will need replacement in time. Now this xc90 has treated us very well since we bought it in november2007, it has no oil leaks, no coolent loss or smoke issues has any one else had head gasket issues an if so how much to fix? We were quoted north of $4000

the other day someone parked so close to me that i couldnt open my door so i hopped in the passenger seat, tried to climb over and banged the rearview mirror: it is now hanging down by a chord .. . no matter what i do i cannot seem to get it back in again though i dont think i have broken anything . .and i am loathe to head to the Volvo service centre to shell out a few hundred dollars for them to put it back in place: any ideas people??? pretty please . . .
Also, our rear door wont open from the outside or using the remote: any ideas please???

Hi All,

First, a little background. My wife and I own a 2005 Ford Freestyle. It won out over all the minivans, including the Honda. We didn't test drive any sport utes or crossovers at the time, as we could tell just be looking at them in the show room that second and third row seating was a joke. We're both tall and we figured our kids would be tall as well. The Freestyle is just comfortable (even the bottom rung SE seats!), drives like a champ, and other than the CVT tranny problems we had, we've been pretty happy with it. Fast forward to 2008, we decide to buy a tent camper, when we figured out the Freestyle isn't going to cut the mustard. We made do borrowing my fathers Expedition, but, well, I'm in my 30s and borrowing the car any time I want to go camping just doesn't seem right to me.

We've been looking around since the winter for a tow vehicle. Nothing has measured up so far, for various reasons. We'd just swing for a used Expedition but the seats aren't comfortable for my wife over long distances. I recently discovered that the XC90 tows up to 5000 lbs. That's perfect for our application. The trailer grosses out at 2700 lb max, so we have 2300 lb headroom for subtracting weight of occupants, cargo in the vehicle, etc. Since the Freestyle was based on the XC90, we figured it would be our best shot for happiness. Sure enough, its comfortable, etc.

I was first thinking of a T6 - I had found one in our price range with OKish miles (60K miles). I was fixing to have my wife test drive it when I started researching it and found all the reports of GM tranny problems. That idea went into the rotary file faster than you say lemon. We looked at and test drove an '05 V8 with 37K miles, but not too keen on that one either - there's a nice high pitched squeal coming from the engine compartment and the rear tires sound like I'm driving a Jeep with those huge off-road tires. The dealership happened to have an '06 that they pulled up for comparision - no engine noises but we didn't test drive it to see if it had that loud hum.

I'd love to pick one up, but I don't need another time bomb in the stable. The CVT transmission on the Freestyle got torn apart the first year, so we figure we have until the car is six years old and the extended warranty runs out before that pulls the alarm again. I know an Expedition will make it 200K miles - my fathers is living proof.

I'd greatly appreciate any advice you guys can give.

Yesterday I used my key manually to lock the door as my dog was in it when I left it.

When I returned and unlocked the doors the hatch was still locked - and it still is :-(

How do I open the hatch from the inside - any easy way or should the plastic cover on the inside of the door be removed first? If so, how do I do that?

I bought a 6 month old XC90 R-Design, 5 weeks ago at significant expense. Yesterday I got a message saying seek immediate assistance (or words to that effect) so I took it to a main dealer (not the one I bought it from)(the 3rd time I've been back to the garage in 5 weeks). It turns out that the engine had an after market performance chip fitted by the dealership I bought it from and it had gone wrong. The dealership I took it to for repair said that because it was after market that it wasn't covered by the warranty and all that they could do was disconnect it and return the engine back to it intended configuration (at a cost of £50). I have now got the car back and there is definitely a difference in the performance, there is a more significant turbo lag which is very noticeable when pulling out of a junction. I bought the car on the strength of the test drive I had in it when it had the chip and made my choice based on its practicality combined with its performance, I now no longer own the car I bought. I probably wouldn't have bought it if I had known that it had been modified (it increases wear and tear) and wasn't covered by the warranty. And on top of all that I've been driving round in a car for the last 5 weeks that probably wasn't covered by insurance (it's one of the questions they ask when applying for insurance; "has your car been modified").

What would you do?

Hi. I'm 2 days away from getting a 2003 XC90
It looks and goes well, but the interior is looking worn and I need a few bits apieces. Do I just go to the local Volvo dealer and pay them $10,000 per bit, or are there other options around?

has anyone had any trouble with the remote key? I've put a new battery in, but often the key fob won't unlock the car. i have to unlock/lock it manually a few times (without opening the door as this sets the alarm off) then the remote works (so far!). Seems intermittent but getting worse. I imagine i may get stuck somewhere not being able to get into the car before long. It does lock every time.. but unlocking is becoming a problem. Is this likely to be the key, or the sensor, and what can be done about it?

Hi I was informed today that my 2004 t6 needs to have some of the motor mounts replaced as well as a new timimg belt. Is this something I can do on my own or should I find a good volvo mechanic. I am mechanical inclined I just don't know to much about volvos

This is my first post to any type of Forum.. I purchased a 2007 Volvo Xc90 4.4L V8 and I am proud to say that it is the best looking & driving SUV on the road. It took me a long time to make the purchase, but I am happy that I did. My only beef are the little rattles and squeaks the center console makes along with other doors and the dash.. wonder if anyone else had these problems or am I the only one?

Well, I am contemplating an extended warranty through Volvo that would cover my Xc90 for 84 months (from in-service date), or 100K. This all adds up to a price tag of $2400.00 which I hear is a pretty good price. But like everyone else I was wondering if anyone would recommend another warranty they have or even some advice on why I shouldn't by the warranty at all.

This is my first European automobile and I plan to keep it for at least 10 years. Please give me your advice asap, I only have till May 1st to purchase the warranty at this price, other wise due to mileage and time, it goes up 800.00.

Currently my Volvo Xc90 has 29K. So far so good...

Thanks for all of your helpful tire posts! We too are having to replace our Factory Pirelli Scorpion 235/65R/17 tires much earlier than anticipated at less than 17M miles on our '06 XC90. We live in Portland, OR and do mostly city driving. We want to get more life out of our next set and are considering H rated instead of V rated. Has anyone purchased/installed tires @ Costco? They don't have the Hunter Balancing System, but told me their balancing system is computerized and "state of the art" and balances tires up/down/left & right all at once. They recommended H rated Michelin Latitude Tour Tires for us @ $185/tire for longer life. We really appreciate any comments/feedback!

Help!!

We purchased a low mileage used 2006 XC90 about 8 months ago. It was from a lease fleet, as clean and polished as if its first day of life. One big problem though, over these last months we've grown to HATE this car because the excessive road/tire noise is so loud it gives us headaches on trips longer then a few minutes and at speeds greater then 40mph. We have already been through a set of new, expensive, Perelli tires and still loud as can be. This is the first time I've researched and to my terror, there appears to be complaints just like mine about this vehicles road noise ALL OVER THE INTERNET! My wife and I are now concerned we spent all this money on a "luxury" SUV and now we discover it has a critical design flaw we may not be able to live with. We took it to the dealer where we bought it and they said that just how it is, that its loud. Well thank you very little! It's our misfortune that we didn't drive it at speed for an length of time until just recently, so now a return to the dealer for refund is not possible.
Has anyone had success getting any action out of Volvo over this or is that like fighting city hall? Are we stuck with a lemon? Our test drive did not reveal the issue. It was only after a few long trips where we had to maintain speeds over 40 mph did we discover the problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My door mirrors won't move via the controls on the drivers door anymore. The window and central locking controls work just fine, and the mirrors move according to the stored settings with the drivers seat. So other switches on the door work and motors are powered. Could it be a fuse - any ideas anyone?

We recently took delivery of a 2009 XC90 3.2 and love it. While driving it yesterday I noticed that the LCD display showing the clock, temp and gear selection is dimmer in the center than on either side. The same is true for the display with the odometer and trip miles. It's not terribly noticeable unless one is looking for it...which, of course, I now am.

When the dash lights are on at night, the dimness in the center almost disappears. I don't know if this is just "the way it is" or if there's a faulty bulb. Thought it would be good to investigate here first. I'm reluctant to have the dealer have a go at it for the risk of rattles when the dash is re-assembled.

Admittedly, this is very minor and if this is the biggest issue we have with the car I'll be thrilled.

The cruise control button on the steering wheel fails to illuminate the cruise icon in the dash (and cruise won't function at all) - this may be linked to an engine service reminder message which has just appeared.

Why is this? To avoid you using cruise to go miles and miles? Surely it's my right to choose whether I service the thing or not and not to have to suffer if I choose not to? I've heard of other manufacturers actually linking service reminders to preventing engine start if left long enough (Jaguar).

Other boards give an indication how to possibly reset the service reminder - guess doing this would clear my cruise issue?

I have a 2004 xc90 and the transmission service urgent light came on. I was not having any problems. I brought it in and they ran a diagnositic and then downloaded new software. They then told me I needed to replace the transmission for $5400. The car only has 59,000 mi. Since this service call the shifting is problematic with high revs and then knocking into 2 and 3rd gears. pper gears are OK. Volvo does not rebuild, only replace. I complained that this was my 4th volvo and they first offered to reduce the cost by 10% and then by 50%, still $2600 plus tax. Any suggestions.

I have a check engine light on and I read the codes with a scanner. The scanner read P2180 and P2178: system too rich off idle bank one and two, P2192 and P2194: system too rich @ higher load bank one and two, P0103: Mass or volume air flow circuit high input. Does anyone have any ideas? Does this sound like a mass airflow sensor failure? Thanks
