Year / Make / Model 1972 Volvo 140
Color Sky Blue
Mileage / Units 294000 Miles

1/4 Mile Time
Description 1972 144E (fuel injected) delivered at Sweden factory in Sept 1971. Drove first 4000 miles in Europe during which it used a lot of oil. After 1st oil change it used less but still 1 Qt every 600 miles. At 140,000 mile overhaul they found a piston ring was installed upside down at factory. Oil usage normal after fixing that.

Modified ignition immediately to optical pickup and capacitor-discharge to eliminate points adjustment and improve performance. Started using Amsoil synthetic engine and gear lubes at 33,000 miles. Many other small mods to extend life or reduce maintenance requirements, including stainless exhaust system still in use. (But no glass pack left, so it whistles on freeways - very embarrassing!) :-( Had opportunity to buy a racing-modified B20 engine at 240,000 miles, so have that now.

Paint is still original on most of car except where repaired in 1987 after being totalled in an accident and rebuilt. (Fortunately one garage had an identical body handy.)

Latest mod is addition of O2 sensor in exhaust to read air-fuel ratio while driving. This enabled adjusting Manifold Pressure Sensor for much better mixture and gas mileage. Engine now produces zero carbon.

If you've read this far, let's swap stories. Will make better photos for anyone interested. rwp728@yahoo.com
